Elite Sports Baton Rouge
Our mission is to access kids through sports, not only to impart the values of sports but the value of education and community service, thus creating future leaders.
From the gridiron to the boardroom, Darryl Hurst has made his mark in the Baton Rouge community. Raised by a single mother in north Baton Rouge, Hurst had the odds stacked against him. He was a troubled child with a great mom who kept him surrounded by great mentors, mostly coaches. Hurst's mother, Mauretta, juggled two kids and wasn't always able to bring both kids to practice. Coaches stepped up and often transported Hurst to and from practices. The rides left an impression on him, and later the spark that drove him to make a mark on future generations.
Throughout his youth, Hurst's coaches sowed an immense amount of wisdom and knowledge into him. He decided to further his education and football career at Southern University and A&M College. Coach Pete Richardson, former Southern University head football, and his staff taught Hurst lessons that would be valuable later in his life.
The life lessons Hurst learned from his coaches and mentors help formed the man he is today. Hurst had an epiphany and realized he had a duty to pay it forward. He had to share the life lessons he learned from his coaches with the generations coming. Thus, he began his involvement in youth sports organizations.
