We had a great turnout at Poverty Point World Heritage Siteโs Artifact Identification Day this past Saturday! About 20 people joined Site Manager Mark Brink and our amazing interpretive staff. 12 different collections were reviewed in the archaeology lab. We saw artifacts ranging from several hundred to about 12,000 years old! ๐บ๐
Plus, around two dozen visitors stopped by the lab throughout the day to check out the program. While we usually offer this event in the winter, itโs awesome to see so much interest all year round from folks eager to learn about their artifacts. Thank yโall for coming out and making it a fantastic day! ๐๐

June 29 was the monthly guided canoe tour on Chicot Lake. 18 paddlers and Interpretive Ranger Eric Bush launched from the south landing to find shade among the bald cypresses and tupelos. The group found the newly reported osprey nest and spotted an immature osprey that was likely born at the nest. To join future canoe tours at Louisiana State Arboretum check out www.lastateparks.com for more details.
