MEET DYLAN!
Dylan Lee, Age 8
How long has Dylan been participating in Youth Basketball at the Y?
About a year and half.
What skills, developmental or physical, have you seen Dylan grow in during the program?
Dylan can now dribble with both hands including cross over, and behind the back dribble. When on the court Dylan is now confident in himself, he wants the ball, but he also understands team play.
What’s Dylan’s favorite part of basketball?
That it involves a lot of coordination, teamwork, and skill (his words).
Anything else you’d like to add?
The coaching staff and the welcoming atmosphere at the Y are the main reasons we keep coming back. All kids learn and have a good time regardless of their skill level.

Lap pool & hot tub cleaning and repairs are underway!
The lap pool and hot tub will reopen Wednesday, December 27th.
Lap Pool will be CLOSED Monday, December 11th—Tuesday, December 26th.
During this closure, Lap Pool will be drained, deep cleaned, have minor repair work on tiles and drains, be refilled, reheated, and balanced with fresh water.
We encourage swimmers to use the Oakland Y pool for lap swimming during the Berkeley lap pool closure. (Please note that the Oakland Y pool will be closed December 22nd—January 1st for its annual cleaning.)
We will have gentle lap swimming and water walking available during select times in Grace's Pool during the Lap Pool closure (see attached modified schedule or view our live schedule on our website at https://ymcaeastbay.org/programs/swimming/lap-swimming). Grace's Pool is 15 yards in length, 86 degrees, and slopes from 3.5 feet to 7.5 feet in depth. It is only appropriate for light intensity exercise.
Lap Pool will reopen on Wednesday, December 27th.
We appreciate your understanding as we make these necessary upgrades and repairs!

I played soccer and ran track throughout my life, so sports have always been a central part of my everyday activities. Once I came to UC Berkeley, I was introduced to strength training and immediately fell in love with it! I have been training consistently since 2021, adopting other forms of exercise such as yoga, powerlifting, and HIIT workouts.
I was inspired to become a trainer because the gym has allowed me to grow as an individual, physically and mentally. My self-confidence has skyrocketed and I have adopted a healthier relationship with my body and food since incorporating strength training into my daily life. I have applied specific skills acquired from the gym, such as discipline, perseverance, and structure to my outside life. Because of this, I was eager to bring this same passion and energy to training others, and ultimately help them pursue a similar path to self-love and sustainability!
My training philosophy is that through the proper training, encouragement, and discipline, we can become the best versions of ourselves and apply it to other facets of life. We can do so much more than we think! Using an evidence-based approach, I value a client's individual goals and help them achieve these needs with the necessary push. I also believe in the regenerative and nutritional aspects of attaining goals as they are just as important as the training itself.
