Our Story

The Berkeley Host Lions Club (BHLC), member Lions Club International, District 4-C3, Zone 8, was founded, chartered, and signed into existence on June 5, 1919 by Lions International Founder Melvin Jones.

With current active membership totaling 60, the demographic ages of BHLC members go from beginning to end. We have Millennials, Generation X-ers, Baby Boomers, Silent Generation, and the Greatest Generation. Our members are students and professional women and men who hold a variety of occupations. We are small-business owners, employees of universities, major corporations, and the public sector. We combine our efforts and we are all united by the committed desire to be of service and to provide humanitarian aid and leadership to local and global communities.

We educate and serve those with impaired vision, help and come to the aid of those who are disadvantaged, serve and aid those with disabilities, model the value of unselfish service to our youth by guiding and involving them in our activities, and respond to local, regional, and global disasters as we meet the challenges to improve the lives of individuals and communities.

Below is a brief listing of the organizations --and in some cases—the individuals, that we engage and work with to serve, support, and improve our local and global communities:
