Idaho State Veterans Home Boise
Caring for America's Heroes
Our Veterans are informed and in tune with what is happening in the community and Micron is doing great things in the Treasure Valley. When they reached out to invite us for a tour - well, yes please! Turns out one of our residents worked at Micron in the 70's - they printed out his old badge (only 4 numbers!) and presented him with it. Thanks, Micron for all you do for us - you make a great difference in the lives of our veterans!
Thank you to Suzie Wilson and her team at Stinker Station #32 in
Hyde Park for donating freshly-baked cookies, twice! Their program of "buy a cookie for a vet" generated the funds to buy the ingredients and make 145 large cookies. Our veterans say Yum! πͺπͺ
A "rainy" day fishing beats a good day of work... Intuit volunteers - rain or shine we can count on you!
Thank you to all of our volunteers for an outstanding year!
We couldn't possibly get everyone in the video but rest assured that we know and appreciate all of you β€
Our Easter Egg Hunt, aka "Amazing Easter Race" on March 30th was truly wonderful. The hunt took place inside the veterans home and volunteers paired up with veterans to run all over the building to complete tasks and collect eggs as fast as they could. The first team to collect 6 eggs won the grand prize (-modeled after the TV show "The Amazing Race"). The highlight of the day was a visit by Garret Smith and Joel Strasser from Meridian, ID and Kuna, ID, who placed 2nd in Season 35 of "The Amazing Race" last year. They shared their experiences of the being in the race and weren't shy about getting into the chicken dance with us.
Thanks to all who made this event "egg-xtra" special for us! π€π°β¨
Where can you learn about the Draft, Cuban Missile Crisis, why Veterans love Robert F. Kennedy, and the Coast Guard rescuing a Russian Ship all in 30 minutes - The Veterans Home of course! This young man was working on a project for his school and handed out cards he had made. Thank you so much!
Casino Night was a grand evening for our veterans!~~
Not only did they enjoy Black Jack, Texas Hold 'Em and Craps, but they also had a spin on the Money Wheel and Roulette! We wish to thank
Aardvark Entertainment for providing their professional casino tables and knowledgeable staff, they were such a pleasure to work with.
Our gratitude also goes to the many volunteers who helped make this a seamless and wonderful evening for our residents. π²π²
Idaho State Veterans Home expansion in jeopardy An expansion for the Idaho State Veterans home was scheduled to break ground this summer. But the entire project is on hold because of something called The Buy America/Build America Act.
'Stop playing politics': Idaho leaders sound alarm on imperiled veterans home projects Plans to rebuild or renovate three veterans homes in Idaho were cruising along β until an unexpected roadblock appeared.
Happy Valentine's Day to our couples! β€β€
Bob Hope is a favorite of many veterans. The Idaho State Museum has a wonderful exhibit that the residents appreciated and naturally prompted stories of when and where they saw him!
ISVH Volunteers are awesome, and Youssef, you are one of the best! Thanks for coordinating a donation and delivering donuts for the hardworking (except when they are eating donuts!) nursing team!
The Grinch was caught causing havoc throughout the Veterans home!
We are so fortunate to have staff with diverse backgrounds and a willingness to share their knowledge. Thank you, Oni, for your work to ensure residents have a Menorah as well as for coming to sing the special prayers/songs! Happy Hanukkah!
Nothing like the Festival of Trees to get in the holiday spirit! Thanks to Boise Elks Lodge and Micron Technology Inc. for helping all our residents enjoy the festivity!
American Legion travelled from all over to bring food to the Veterans Home. We love how you take care of us - Thank you!
Thank you to all who attended and participated in our Veterans Day πΊπΈ
Yes, a new building is on the horizon! Thank you Nick Rosenberger and Idaho Statesman for this great article:
This state-run Boise nursing home serves 122 veterans. A big change is coming βItβs going to be less of a facility and more of a home,β administrator says.
We had a "spooktacular" time at our Halloween party this year! We held a pumpkin decorating contest with winners from 4 categories (Spookiest, Most Creative, Cutest, And Best Resident Pumpkin) and we all put on our best costumes for the event, Even some of our staff departments went with a theme! We hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween from all of us at ISVH! π
We are happy to welcome Miss Idaho to the Idaho State Veterans Home on Friday, November 3, 10:30-11:30am! π±π·
SoGood Inc, thanks for taking the vets to the Meridian Speedway. They had the best time and enjoyed meeting a few of the drivers too!
Gowen Thunder - Thank you Idaho National Guard, Micron Technology Inc. Volunteers, ISVH Volunteers Lucile, Kirsten, and Jon, and the ISVH staff for supporting an awesome day at Gowen Thunder. It takes a village and this "village" loves its veterans!
We were fortunate to visit "The Wall That Heals", the traveling replica of the Vietnam Wall, on June 30, 2023. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) created this exhibit with its' mobile education center, traveling throughout the United States delivering a "healing legacy to millions". We took 2 buses to the Meridian Scentsy Commons on this hot morning, and while it started out as a fun outing, the tone transformed into reverence and solemnity once we arrived. As we toured the wall we were able to locate names, and some even did a rubbing. We listened to a moving account of the Vietnam experience given by Tim Tetz, VVMF's Director of Outreach. Residents healed just a little bit more this day.πΊπΈ
Summer Fun ~
Our beloved Blessing Bike was returned to us today after a much-needed tune-up (thank you Richard Nota, VA Volunteer), so we decided to take it for a spin. Our veterans had a ball sitting at the front of the bike, touring the VA campus as Felix "Buzz" King (another VA volunteer) did all the peddling.
As it got hotter, we retreated to the shade and enjoyed slices of watermelon (thanks IVAL) and good tunes...π
Many thanks Treasure Valley for supporting our veterans!
