We wrap up our intern spotlight series with Nicole Yeomans.

Nicole is another intern who came to us from the University of New Hampshire. She did both her undergraduate and graduate degrees there while competing in their Division 1 cross country and track and field program. During her time at UNH, Nicole received America East Academic Honor Roll accolades, as well as UNH's Emerging Leader award.

What's next for Nicole? While there's still a lot of internship ahead of her, she loves the idea of specializing in oncology. She was lucky enough to spend two weeks with our fab oncology RD team this fall.

Say hello to Nicole!

Our Foodservice Management rotation has been renovated here and there over the past couple of decades. One thing that has remained constant, though, is the cafe special the interns plan and execute.

Today, our intern Bailey proudly serves up Buffalo Cauliflower Tacos with Sweet Potato Fries! Here’s proof that getting your veggies in doesn’t have to be boring or bland 🔥🌶️ 🥵

Shout out to our intern, Jillian, today!

Jill hails from Winthrop, MA and worked at the locally famous Belle Isle Seafood for several summers.

At the University of New Hampshire, she completed her undergraduate degree while competing with the UNH club hockey team. After that, she headed to Boston to do her master's at Boston University, and was able to gain some great clinical experience as a diet tech at Spaulding Rehab in Charlestown.

What does Jill's future hold? Her mind changes frequently on the topic of her "dream job", but she knows the possibilities are endless! She has really enjoyed her clinical rotations, and also has an interest in eating disorders.

What's next? We'll all just have to wait and see 🙂 In the meantime, send Jill an encouraging word!

Our spotlight shines on Bailey today.

Bailey's from Arlington, MA. She spent her undergrad at the University of Delaware, then returned to Massachusetts to complete her master's degree at Boston University.

An avid runner, she was president of the U Delaware cross country club, and has continued to compete since leaving school. She runs in the Boston Marathon this April!

Bailey is also our Pediatric Focus intern this year, which means she'll spend about 10 weeks at Boston Children's instead of the usual two weeks. She is very interested in neonatal nutrition, as well as performance nutrition.

Wish Bailey luck in all her pursuits!

Happy New Year from a few of our current clinical interns, who took a quick lunch break in the East cafeteria.

Alumni - notice that they’re wearing scrubs! 💜 That’s a recent change to our dress code, scrubs instead of a lab coat. Interns seem to love them!

Shining the spotlight on Jenna Bernard today!

Jenna hails from Westport, Connecticut, and started her professional career as a food scientist. Some of her duties included making and testing ice cream! R&D on the mint ice cream was her favorite.

Jenna came to the BIDMC internship after completing her Master’s at Tufts University and DPD courses at Simmons University. While she doesn’t yet know where this internship will lead her next, she is excited to figure it out.

Not one to sit still, Jenna has just 10 more hikes to go to complete the New Hampshire 48. That’s the 48 4,000-ft mountains in NH! FYI, she also knows more than a little bit about Acadia National Park - just ask her! She lived there for a year and would love to tell you about her favorite places to explore :)

Say hello to Jenna and welcome her to BIDMC!

Today, the spotlight is on our intern, Caitlin Diel!

Cait did her Master’s degree at Simmons University before coming to BIDMC. Prior to that, she taught English as a Second Language as well as Spanish. She also lived and worked in Chile for 3 years. Her advanced Spanish language skills will definitely come in handy throughout the year.

When not at BIDMC, Cait enjoys CrossFit and lots of walks, and is learning Olympic weightlifting! To decompress, she watches TV with Queenie, her roommate’s Chihuahua :)

Please welcome Cait to our BIDMC family 💙🩵

Next up for our Intern Spotlight is Rachel Vandale!

A career changer with years of experience in the business sector, Rachel chose the nutrition field after developing a growing interest in food and health. She completed her graduate nutrition work at Simmons University before joining us at BIDMC.

While she doesn’t yet know exactly where her career will lead her, she is learning so much through the BIDMC internship and is excited to be connecting to areas of nutrition she did not anticipate.

When not in rotations or riding the commuter rail home, she can often be found working at Gillette Stadium, where she has enjoyed helping with events for many years. She especially loves cheering on the Pats!

Please drop a hello to Rachel to welcome her to the BIDMC family 💙🩵

We’ll be putting the spotlight on each of our interns over the next few weeks. First up?

Zoe Miller, MS

Zoe did her undergraduate nutrition degree at UMass Amherst, then headed to Boston University to complete her graduate degree. She has loved her clinical experiences at BIDMC so far, and - in a word - finds that all of her preceptors are ‘amazing’ 🤩

When she’s not commuting or hitting the BIDMC café for her favorite snack (currently that’s pretzels and hummus), she’s usually baking or doing a barre class to decompress.

Please welcome Zoe by dropping a comment to say hi!

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Throwback Thursday: 1930 Edition

Way back in 1930, Sarah Wolff Orkin became the very first graduate of Beth Israel Hospital's dietetic internship. Several decades later, she came back to Boston to visit the hospital where her dietetics career started. PIctured here is Sarah with her son, along with Patt Queen Samour, Natalie Egan, and two other staff dietitians.

The entire Longwood Medical Area is steeped in healthcare history. The BIDMC dietetic internship has been a part of it from the beginning!

HUGE KUDOS to our interns Bailey (left) and Nicole.

This past weekend, both ran in marathons in New England, with impressive results.

Bailey PR’d at the Baystate Marathon with a time of 3:03:42 (edited) and came in 8th in the female division.

Nicole ran the Loco Marathon in New Hampshire, her first marathon ever, and at 2:57 was the women’s winner.

Well done, both of you. And excellent training for the internship, which definitely requires endurance 🤩
