This man handled business tonight! .martinez1710 told me he wanted to win this fight and he proved it. Events like are tough as a first time fight simply because of the production/environment. It's a whole show (so fun π€©). Bright lights, ring walk and everything. Not like the local smoker events most start out with. So to come out and actually rise to the occasion and show the hard work you put in is amazing. You represented yourself and properly whether you won or lost. But you enjoy this hard fought win. You earned it! Proud of you, brotha.
Last Saturday, I had the honor of working with at the best gym around,
Butterfly Effect Theatre of Colorado will be performing "The Royale", a play by Marco Ramirez that was inspired by Jack Johnson. I was so excited when they contacted me about training/consulting with their production crew. I mean... Jack Johnson is my favorite boxer of all time. How could I possibly pass this up? Well, the whole crew did great! Working with a group of actors was a new and fun experience. I can't wait to see the show! I'll try not to yell at anyone to keep their hands up from the audience π¬π€£π₯π₯

It may not look like much... but we out here! We're set up by the big tree at Scott Carpenter Park. Come learn some skills! Don't forget that women are free for the month of July. See yall when you get here
Move left AND right with the jab (and every other punch). This is base of moving with combinations. A former 2 time WBO world champ, Adrian Mora, once told me "Fighters look like monsters moving in one direction. Make him move the other way and he'll be average"... ok, so I paraphrased a bit... but he was right. This really applies to many sports. Don't get caught up moving one way because it feels comfortable. Get comfortable moving in every direction and watch yourself elevate ππΏπ₯π₯
Watch this video. You might learn something. There is far more to boxing than the action itself. Getting to the neutral corner immediately can make or break a fight. Putting your arms on the ropes during a standing 8 count in the amateurs is a personal lesson for me haha! But there is way more to the sport than most realize

There will be times that you're living your best life and all of a sudden everything seems to go wrong. You look around and feel like everything is just an overwhelming mess. You know you have some work to do, but where do you even start? Right here and right now. One piece at a time. But think about the great time you had leading up to this point. Sure... there's a mess to clean up... but damn it was fun making it! You've got plenty more in you. And even if you didn't make that mess on your own, you can gain strength from the rebuild πͺπΏπͺπΏ
*Same bag several months, 3 rolls of tape, punches, chomps and baseball bat swings later... π€πͺπΏπͺπΏ
We do corporate classes too! And because we're not out of this pandemic yet... we still practice covid safe training. Contact directly for rates!
Tuesday Training Tip! Practice fluid combos. Don't worry about speed or power. Be smooth. The smoother the punches, the harder it is to tell what's coming. That makes it way easier to sneak in say... a liver shot. Take your time and go slow. Add speed as you get better. Again, focus on fluidity. It'll make you faster and hit harder.
Bully breeds and boxing... despite what many may believe, they can both be great for your health. Especially your mental health! I mean, look at that face!
While you're training today don't let struggling on that difficult step or missing your lift PR get you down. Breathe. The things that we love can also be frustrating and that's ok. Keep goin. Slow down that step and just work slow technique to get it down. Take some weight off your lift and focus on your form again. You're still making progress today. When you wake up tomorrow, try again and see how you do. Take one step at a time and we'll get where we're goin.
Judging by my news feed on and ... it's Monday. I guess my calendar confirms it... but either way, punch today in the face. Right in its Monday face! Your physical health directly affects your mental health. Go sweat it out! If you're not sure how to work up a Monday sweat, slide in my DMs and let's chat. Boxing is more than beating people up. It's far more about uplifting than the beat down. While you're at it, take 30 minutes to yourself (not including your workout) and do something relaxing. Read a book. Play a game. Fire up that old NES. Pet a dog. Pretend cats actually like us. Do something to take control of the Monday mindset

Today, I got rounds with my very first set of boxing gloves from about 10 years ago. So I got curious about the origins of the boxing glove. So, since my first set is from I'll just let them tell us the facts!
*from titleboxing.com/history*
"When boxing first appeared in the Olympics in 688 B.C., Greek fighters wrapped their hands with oil-softened oxhide leather strips called himantes. Those evolved into a cestus, which is the ancient form of a boxing glove as we know it today. They were made with strips of leather that were occasionally fitted with blades or spikes. They were more like weapons than sporting goods. Although they have radically evolved and improved, the first βpaddedβ boxing glove was introduced in 1743. At that time, the padded gloves were only used in training. For the next decade or so, the use of βmufflers,β as the gloves were called, was considered unmanly."
Well, waddaya know... TODAY is Monday! I'm sure you're all aware. What makes Mondays so rough for the majority of folks? Does Monday have some mystical hold on our souls? Or is it the dread of the work week ahead? Whatever it may be, we've all had a case of "the Mondays". Today, and every Monday ahead (no matter what day is your "Monday") I want you to take time for yourself to find some joy to start your week. Our mental health matters. From athletes to delivery drivers, First responders to janitor and everyone in between... your mental health matters. So step back and enjoy your coffee, training session or your walk today. Take time for you in the middle of all your awesomeness today.
Thanks to the crew for coming out for the rounds yesterday! Y'all did great! If you didn't make it, we've got room for more!

Yea... it's called the 'speedbag' but it's more about timing. Personally, I count "1,2,3,1,2,3"
1- bag strikes the platform away from me after initial my contact
2- bag strikes platform toward me
3- bag strikes platform away and I time my next hit to repeat the cycle (not really a proper punch on the speedbag π€·πΏββοΈ)
Start slow and add speed as you get the timing down.

Stick and move! Definitely one of my favorite drills at . It's great for counter punching work and is a decent simulation of boxing action. Something to avoid and something to hit. Sounds a little familiar π€ π₯
Practice until it becomes natural. It isn't all about flashy routines and fancy drills. That all has it's purpose. But the repetition of realistic boxing action is necessary. Don't just punch. Vary the angle, timing, range, speed and power. What you practice is what works.
Ready for more of this! We're waiting for covid numbers to settle but we'll definitely get back outside for class asap. In the mean time... a virtual class is coming soon! It'll be just in time to burn off that holiday ham ππ₯§π°π¦π

Workin a little slickery in Boxing Flow at yesterday. Sneaking the uppercut after slipping with an angle step... Pretty sure we saw this one recently on ppv π€π€π
I think we could all use some boxing therapy right now... I know I sure do. Guess that means I'll head on over to to see .gaudette.16 and punch some things this evening. I'll see some of you this week. Election stress is real!
Pace is extremely important in boxing. You want to go hard but understand that you are still human. We can only go all out for so long. You learn that real quick once your target starts to move and hit back. My mud pit drill is a good lesson in that. Go too hard and I'll have you stuck in the mud. Too light and I'll drag you through it. Basically... you're gonna be tired π but you have to keep going. My man, Max killed it with the rest of the class today.
Catch me at every Saturday at 11am for Boxing Flow. And remember... we can get our personal sessions in here too! It's gonna be cold soon haha

Slipping punches... the safest way is 100% to the outside like in the first picture. There isn't another hand to punch you over there. BUT!! If you're too predictable, your opponent will punch where your head will be. Sometimes you have to take a calculated risk. Slip to the inside, punch your opponent in the lips (or any other fun place) and get the hell back out of there ππΏπ₯π₯π₯
Rain, sleet, hail or snow! Delivering personal boxing workouts in all weather... this is inside weather though... So are heavy rain and hail. Definitely hail π€·πΏββοΈ
