OGRE
There's no such thing as bad weather...only inappropriate gear.
Iceland: hike on snow covered road to Hafragilsfoss then on along the river rim of the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river to reach Dettifoss; May 2, 2024
Alpi Apuane Central Section - Pania della Croce (1859m): 90 minute drive to the trailhead at Piglionico. Normal route via the Focetta del Puntone then up the Vallone dell’Inferno. 2:23 to summit with the whole roundtrip climb taking exactly 5:00. Climb on May 26, 2024.
Alpi Apuane North Section - Monte Bardaiano (1,407m): about 5:30 roundtrip from the tailhead in Vinca. The route is CAI 190 to the Foce di Lizarri then an unmarked climbers path up a Grade 1 rock section onto the Cresta di Nattapiana with lots of exposure, particularly on the north face. The summit is not marked.
Alpi Apuane Central Section - Monte Corchia (1,678m): second climb via the north face route with the descent along the Eastern Ridge then a return via CAI 129. January 21, 2024. Total time was 4:45 including about 0:15 at the summit and about 0:10 at the refuge.
Appennino Tosca-Emiliano - West: Monte Orsaro 1830m and Monte Braiola 1819m climbed on November 17, 2023
San Juan River trip: May 25 to June 1, 2023; 84.3 river miles from Sand Island to Clay Hills with 6 camps: Fossil Stop; Mile 37; Honaker; John's Canyon; Slickhorn B and Grand Gulch. The cfs ranged from about 8,000 to 8,700 and the river was about 6 feet above its normal level. Most rapids were washed out but there were strong currents and high waves to contend with. We were a party of six in four rafts. The biggest challenge was identifying camps with the high water and landing with the strong current that ran over 7mph at times.
Parco Nazionale dell'Appennino Tosco-Emiliano: climbs of Monte Bocco (1790m); Monte Pitturina (1741m); Cima Canuti (1743m) and Monte Malpaso (1707m) on 26 April, 2023 from the trailhead at Lagastello. The round trip was 6 1/2 hours to complete the loop.
