Nikola Tesla’s spark that lit the entire world with long-distance Alternating Current was initially lit. In appreciation, fellow New Yorkers have created a Triptych Tribute to Nikola Tesla where it all first happened; where the modern electrified world first began here in WESTERN NEW YORK !

More than a century and a quarter ago, Buffalo became the first city on the planet to be powered by AC electricity through the genius of Nikola Tesla; and it has taken a century and a quarter for us to acknowledge and appreciate what Tesla has done for our civilization.

Tracing the flow of alternating current from Niagara Falls through North Tonawanda and on to Buffalo, the Buffalo Niagara Nikola Tesla Council has created the Tesla Legacy Corridor here in Western New York, the epicenter of Tesla’s great work. And here today with our elegant Tesla statue we are announcing the creation of the first and only park in the United States named in his honor.

More than 126 years ago, it took the Common Council of the City of Buffalo over a year and a half to approve the reception of AC electricity for Buffalo. Three years ago we petitioned Common Council to name the Park and they agreed and we are most grateful to the Council for creating another first for Buffalo - the first and only in the entire United States - Nikola Tesla Park!

The Buffalo Niagara Nikola Tesla Council, Inc (BNNTC members: Martin McGee, Paul Swisher, Stephen J Lestingi, and Francis S Lestingi, PhD) has officially announced the establishment of Nikola Tesla Park at Main and North Division Streets in Buffalo, NY. The Park is the culmination of the Nikola Tesla Legacy Corridor in Western New York.

As a tribute of appreciation to Nikola Tesla, the BNNTC created the Tesla Legacy Corridor
in this region where Tesla made his transformative accomplishments. Since 1896 AC electricity
has flowed from Niagara Falls to North Tonawanda and on to Buffalo, the first location on the
planet to be electrified; yet, there has never been any public acknowledgement of the civilization
transformation that started right here.

At Niagara Falls, the birthplace of the electric age for the planet, there was no information
about Tesla to accompany the statue that was donated by Yugoslavia in 1976.
The BNNTC designed and donated an attractive information panel describing Tesla and
what he did to enhance our civilization. It now accompanies the statue, so visitors from around
the world can learn more about our fellow New Yorker.

Three-miles from the still extant North Tonawanda Transformer House that sent AC electricity
from Niagara Falls to Buffalo, the BNNTC designed and gifted a monumental, stylized art
structure of a Tesla Coil to the City of North Tonawanda which is now the centerpiece of
Gratwick-Riverside Park.

As a third and culminating tribute to Tesla, in Buffalo, NY, the first Electric City on the planet,
the BNNTC designed and donated an elegant 7-ft bronze statue along with a beautiful
information panel for Nikola Tesla Park. The BNNTC acknowledges, with gratitude, the support
of the Common Council of the City of Buffalo for designating the park Nikola Tesla Park
which is the first and only park named in Nikola Tesla’s honor in the entire United States.
