Welcome to NASPOG ! Every 1-2 weeks we will be introducing you to one of our fabulous NASPOG members, starting with members of our executive board.
First up: Dr. Julia Nardi Riddle!
What is your profession: I am a psychiatrist. I just wrapped up a two-year postdoc reproductive psychiatry fellowship at John’s Hopkins under the mentorship of Dr. Lauren M. Osborne. I am joining the faculty at UNC as an academic psychiatrist to continue in both clinic (outpatient mostly, but also inpatient) and research. My research focus going forward will be on the biological underpinning of mood and anxiety after pregnancy loss and/or infertility. We have so much opportunity to learn!
Where are you located? What makes you grateful to live there? We were living in Baltimore but just moved to Chapel Hill. I am always most grateful for the people I get to be around — family, friends, brilliant coworkers, inspiring patients — as well as nature, art, and delicious food.
What is your educational background: I completed college at Georgetown (BA in Classics) then, years later, did a Postbac program at Bryn Mawr followed by med school, residency, and fellowship at Johns Hopkins. Funny enough, though my degrees are all from a close distance to each other, I spent a lot of time all over the country/world in the times during and in between.
What are your hobbies? Sailing, reading, seeing my friends and family (and playing with their kids), traveling for physical feats/adventures.
If you weren’t a (fill in the blank) what would you be? Community organizer, sailor, environmental lawyer, sommelier (we can all dream, right?)
What other titles do you hold?
Mama, Captain, Head of Home Operations, Adventure planner
What do you love about NASPOG? NASPOG brings together a wonderful and diverse community of people that are all passionate about finding creative ways to support women and motherhood
What else would you love to share about yourself with your colleagues? I feel so lucky in this career to be surrounded by amazing people and also to be trusted by my extended community with their reproductive experiences. It is a forever honor.
Day 2 ended with a poster session. Here are only some of the phenomenal posters featured. Tag us if you have others to share!

Reassuring study about SSRI use in pregnancy and PPHN.
“The absolute risk difference for the development of PPHN after exposure to antidepressants in late pregnancy was 1.3 per 1000 infants (95% CI, 0.2-2.4), suggesting that between 417 and 5000 women would need to be treated with antidepressants in late pregnancy to result in 1 additional PPHN case. Further, in late pregnancy, a more pronounced risk was observed with non-SSRI exposure (OR, 2.56; 95% CI, 1.54-4.25) than with SSRI exposure (OR, 1.36; 95% CI, 0.95-1.95) (P = .046).”

We are delighted to announce that the first comprehensive medical textbook in reproductive psychiatry, the Textbook of Women's Reproductive Mental Health, has been published by the American Psychiatric Association. It is the first comprehensive text for understanding, diagnosing, and supporting the unique mental health needs of women and others who undergo female reproductive transitions during their entire reproductive life cycle. This project grew out of the recently-launched National Curriculum in Reproductive Psychiatry (NCRP). With 80 authors (many of whom are NASPOG members) and over 30 institutions represented, this book has truly been a team effort and a labor of love! We are thrilled that it is complete and out in the world! The book is sold both as a print copy and online as an ebook. It is currently available at the American Psychiatric Association publishing website and at retailers such as Amazon.

No one should lose their Constitutional rights because they are pregnant, capable of pregnancy, or because of any pregnancy outcome, including birth, pregnancy loss, or abortion. That’s why NASPOG is proud to join National Advocates for Pregnant Women and other organizations asking The U.S. Supreme Court not to uphold Mississippi's abortion ban or overturn Roe v. Wade, and with it, nearly 50 years of precedent. Read our brief: https://bit.ly/SCOTUSBrief
A world without Roe v. Wade is a world where every pregnancy is a potential crime and every pregnant person a potential criminal. No one should lose their constitutional rights because they are pregnant, capable of pregnancy, or because of any pregnancy outcome, including birth, pregnancy loss, or abortion. That’s why NAPW submitted an amicus brief on behalf of 12 other leading organizations defending the rights of pregnant people asking The U.S. Supreme Court not to uphold Mississippi's abortion ban or overturn Roe v. Wade, and with it, nearly 50 years of precedent. Read our brief: https://bit.ly/SCOTUSBrief
