HCAP is a student-run program at Harvard. Our mission is to build bridges between the US and Asia by hosting annual conferences around the world.

The Harvard College in Asia Program (HCAP) was founded in October of 2003 at Harvard University with the goal of fostering a mutual interest and understanding of Asia among Harvard students while at the same time, striving to foster an interest in the United States among students from across Asia. Day 6 Part 1: speakers, museum tour, fireside chats
HCAP 2024’s penultimate day featured speakers Dao Jensen, who discussed how to apply the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi to our lives, and Rebecca Xiong, who explored the process of building a successful startup. We then embarked on a tour of the Harvard Museums of Science & Culture and participated in fireside chats (with free boba!)

day 5: speaker events, Taza Chocolate tour part 2, and Boston tours

We started our day by learning about career pivots with Lisa Rohrer, followed by learning about filming making in the Dominican Republic. After lunch, some delegations went on a Taza Chocolate tour. We finished the day by touring Boston.

day 4 part 1: speaker events and HCAPx

We started our day with an inspiring speech from Brian Yu and followed by an incredible performance by the Parker Quartet. After lunch, we learned about Foremost Group takes a path less traveled when handling the difficult circumstances of COVID-19, followed by HCAPx, a version of TEDx but with speeches by our delegates.

day 3: speakers, chocolate tour, talent show

We kicked off day 3 by hearing speakers Robin Kelsey and Alen Juginović! Afterwards, the first waves of delegates enjoyed a tour of Taza Chocolate in Somerville, and we ended the day with an incredible talent show featuring nine show stopping performances!

TWO DAYS UNTIL 🎉

Harvard allowed undergraduate students to pursue double concentrations TWO years ago! This allows students to study two fields without writing a joint thesis, since previously, undergraduates who want to study two disciplines must either pursue a joint concentration or add a secondary field of study.

THREE DAYS UNTIL 🎉

Harvard has THREE main campuses located in the greater Boston area: the Cambridge campus includes Harvard College, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard Law School, and more, while the Allston campus is located across the river and includes Harvard Business School, Harvard Stadium, Harvard Innovation Labs, and the newly opened Science and Engineering Complex, and finally the Longwood campus is home to Harvard Medical School, Harvard Dental School, and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health!

FOUR DAYS UNTIL 🎉

At Harvard College, every freshman is guaranteed housing and lives in one of the freshman dorms that are in Harvard Yard or near it. Dorms are separated into FOUR freshman residential neighborhoods called Yards, consisting of Crimson Yard, Elm Yard, Ivy Yard, and Oak Yard!

Harvard College has FIVE curriculum requirements to graduate, consisting of general education, divisional distribution (arts & humanities, science & engineering, social sciences), quantitative reasoning with data, expository writing, and language!

SIX DAYS UNTIL 🎉

Harvard offers SIX pre-orientation programs for incoming first-year students to attend in August to help with the transition to college! During Pre-Orientation, students can build strong relationships with classmates who share similar interests, learn more about student life at Harvard, and connect with upper-level students.

Harvard used to have a schedule system called “Harvard Time” that allowed students to arrive SEVEN minutes late to every class past the scheduled time that was originally meant to budget for traveling time between classes!

Harvard Yard is a grassy NINE-hectare area that constitutes the oldest part and the center of the campus of Harvard. 13 of 17 freshman dorms are located in the Yard, as well as 4 libraries, Memorial Church, and 5 buildings of classrooms and academic departments!

TEN DAYS UNTIL 🎉

The Rhodes Scholarship, established in 1902 through the will of Cecil John Rhodes, is an award of two to three years of study at Oxford. This year, TEN Harvard students were selected as Rhodes Scholars to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford! Harvard College produced the most American Rhodes Scholars for the fifth year in a row.
