For the first time, the human genome has been fully mapped. Researchers unveiled their work for the first time at the Telomere to Telomere consortium. While most of the human genome has previously been mapped, these discoveries "fill in the gaps" of what we know.

Six papers will be published in the journal "Science" and other journals outlining this work.

Scientists have developed a robust Downs Syndrome rodent model to better examine new therapies and the genetic characteristics of this syndrome. The researchers used mazes such as the Open Field Test and Morris Water Maze to validate their model.

A genetically modified pig heart has been implanted in a human for the first time. The research team, headed by surgeon Muhammad Mohiuddin, implanted the heart into the 57-year-old David Bennett in Baltimore, Maryland.

First pig-to-human heart transplant: what can scientists learn? Researchers hope that a person who has so far lived for a week with a genetically modified pig heart will provide a trove of data on the possibilities of xenotransplantation.
