A Camden program is helping lower-wage earners become homeowners An organization founded by a priest in Camden, NJ is giving lower-income wage-earners a chance to become homeowners.

Starting July 1st, the City of Camden is offering FREE fans and air conditioners to qualifying senior citizens! To be eligible, you must be a Camden resident, 60 years or older and have not received a fan last year.

We are so proud of this mural depicting the rich history of East Camden. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us to celebrate the ribbon cutting for our newest mural on Admiral Wilson Blvd. Congratulations to the artists from the We Live Here Artist Collective on their amazing work.

Free air conditioners available for residents over 60 in Camden County Low-income seniors can call the county's Division of Senior Services to request a fan or air conditioner.

We are thrilled to share an article about our Executive Director, Pilar Hogan Closkey, who has been with the organization for 25 remarkable years. Continuing the visionary work of our founder, Father Bob McDermott, Pilar has led our efforts to revitalize East Camden into a vibrant strong community.

Financial Capability Tip #3/ #4:

Work on the how to achieve your financial goals by managing your money, controlling your spending, budgeting, saving in a separate account for the specific goal

a) Maintain a consistent savings plan and not use funds
b) Set up a budget. If you already have a budget adjust it to include the specific goal
c) Manage your spending – best way to do it, comparing your budget to your bank statements.
d) Set up auto pay
e) Set up calendar reminders for bill payments
f) Do not close or open new accounts
g) Control/reduce/eliminate your credit card spending.
h) Watch out for predatory loans (easy to obtain, high interest (ex. Paycheck loans, One Main, etc.)

Be patient, be persistent. Do not get disheartened.

Progress is being made on the SJCS construction project on Federal Street. This building will soon house some of our education programs, community space and workforce development programming. Stay tuned for updates as the construction progresses.

We are so grateful for the continued support we receive from the Domenica Foundation. On Saturday Domenica volunteers joined us to do some small landscaping and beautification projects on our block. Thank you to all of the Domenica Volunteers who came out, it’s always a day we look forward to!

The East Camden Advisory Committee chose the three (3) following applicants to receive funding from the Better Blocks Grant.

Each grantee will up to $4, 000 to improve the quality of life on their blocks:

A grassroots effort has a Camden neighborhoods blooming with pride With its assortment of solid, well-kept homes and others under renovation, the 2700 block of Arthur Avenue is contrary to stereotypes about Camden, NJ. New planters are adding to the appeal.
