JCares

JCares provides support to neighboring schools and community organizations. But do we really know the challenges they face just to make it through the day?

// What we do
We service our neighboring schools and communities by providing food, clothing and other necessities for families in need. Through drives and generous donations we are able to assist in meeting the needs of our community, and continue to foster adequate lifestyles.

// Why we care
We see so many families going about their day seemingly, without a care in the world. For many, food, ad

We love serving you! 😊

With the expansion of our programs we wanted to take some time to introduce the people that make distributions happen!

Victoria Trudell (pictured right) is the founder of Zelphia’s Community Kitchen. A 23-year-old SchoolCraft College graduate with a degree in food chemistry and nutrition, she has always been interested in giving back to her community. During college, Victoria had her first opportunity to combine her passions for serving others and cooking by teaching culinary classes to clients with autism through a local nonprofit.

After graduation Victoria began dreaming of her own nonprofit that could fight food insecurity in local communities. In December 2019, she started cooking hot meals for a local homeless shelter which eventually evolved into her free food distributions providing fresh produce, dairy items, and dry goods to families in need.

Erica Jeffries (pictured left) is the founder of JCares. In 2015 her passion for serving the community started close to home when her son asked if he could take an extra lunch to school for one of his classmates who didn’t have food. This small but meaningful act was the stepping stone into something greater. From there, she partnered with local schools providing clothing, supplies, and other items to students and their families.

When Covid hit causing school closings, senior citizens and families unable to leave their homes, and seeing an outcry of need from her community, Erica knew she wanted to do more. In June of 2020, she quickly shifted her outreach into a mobile lunch program partnering with local housing facilities providing free lunches to all members of the community. This program rapidly grew serving over 800 families in the first 2 months.

Still knowing that there was an even bigger need to be met, she decided once again to expand the program.

In September of 2020, Victoria and Erica decided to join forces and start the Grab-n-Go mobile food program, feeding over 30,000 families to date. This program has evolved to include a monthly senior distribution and a partnership with DoorDash to provide free home delivery for their clients.

Today, Zelphia’s and JCares continues creating partnerships with local businesses, food banks, and churches to expand resources ensuring that no one goes hungry, no food is wasted in our community, and no one is denied the opportunity or assistance to become self-sufficient.
