: Several FYLPRO alumni participated in the Dream Bigger Challenge in Sunnyvale last week. FYLPRO 2015 delegate Nicole Adrienne Ponseca of Jeepney took home second place and 2023 delegate Walbert Castillo of Istorya was a finalist. FYLPRO Tayo’s Project Director Leezel Tanglao and Product Counsel Mark Calaguas pitched the project in an exhibition round with Technologist Jobel Kyle Vecino in attendance. FYLPRO served as a community partner for the event.
: FYLPRO Tayo core leadership member and 2022 fellow Frances Angela Rodriguez presented on public health misinformation and disinformation in Tagalog/Bisaya/English at the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) Seminar at Silliman University in Dumaguete, Philippines on October 4, 2024 through Texas Tech University Health Science Center’s (TTUHSC) Philippines International Program as part of her Masters in Public Health (MPH) program. Rodriguez and her colleague, Ericka Tobias, RN, presented on health misinformation and disinformation and their presentation was titled “Differentiating Science and Misinformation in Health: Understanding the Truth in the Age of Information."

The Youth Ambassador Program has been redesigned to give Asian American and Pacific Islander youth the skills and support needed to make a difference.
The revamped Youth Ambassador Program is now a 8-month journey, where participants will be guided through a structured process of discovery, mentorship, innovation, and implementation, culminating in the creation of Capstone Projects designed to build safer, more inclusive environments.

This year, the team (sponsored by AAJA member Leezel Tanglao) tied for second place with the Los Angeles Times team 2 and the Japanese American bar association. In 2022, FYLPRO/Tayo team won AAJA-LA's virtual trivia bowl. : Earlier this month, FYLPRO Immediate Past President and Tayo Help Desk Director and cofounder Leezel Tanglao and FYLPRO Executive Vice President And Tayo Product Counsel and Cofounder Mark Calaguas presented at the UConn Connecticut Advanced Computing Center as part of the last all hands meeting marking the close of the National Science Foundation (NSF)’s grant supporting the CoInsights project led by Meedan. For the last two years, FYLPRO’s Tayo has been working with all the project’s partners and collaborators including Viet Fact Check, UMass Amherst College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Department off Communication’s Global Technology for Social Justice Lab, University of Colorado Boulder, Rutgers University School of Communication and Information, University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Public Policy Center, Piyaoba, and DesiFacts. We look forward to continuing our work together in building trusting and authenticity online communications for diaspora communities.
