We are committed to preparing our students to become effective, impassion
Earlier this month we welcomed students from Robert F. Kennedy Community of Schools' Los Angeles High School of the Arts to expand their knowledge on storytelling and learn about our Project CYCLE (Crafting Young Childrenโs Literary Experiences). The students, most of whom are enrolled in an English Language Development (ELD) program, were able to apply their acquired knowledge to tell their own story and create their own culminating activity for their required portfolios and senior project defense.
The students heard from a variety of speakers, including Jenefer Mateo, alumna from our Liberal Studies department and current student in our MA in Education: Dual Language Learning; Ms. Wei Ma, Electronic Resources Librarian in the CSUDH Library; Dr. Yesenia Fernรกndez, Associate Professor in our School Leadership Program; and many more.
Thanks to all of the members of Project CYCLE for making this possible, and in particular to Dr. Jen Stacy for coordinating and planning the visit!

Congratulations to Dr. Maggie Landeros, Assistant Professor in our School & College Counseling Program, for being one of the recipients of CSUDH's 2024-25 Exceptional Levels of Service to Students Award! ๐
Dr. Landeros joined CSUDH and our College of Education as a part-time faculty member in Fall 2021, but then quickly became a full-time faculty member one year later in Fall 2022. In the two short years that she has been in our college as a tenure-track faculty member, Dr. Landeros has had a tremendous impact in our Counseling program.
Growing up in Compton as a 14 year old, young Dr. Landeros knew at this age that she wanted to go into counseling because of her affinity to serve and give back to her community. Now as an adult professional, she saw some gaps in training and development. She sought to contribute with a different lens to educate and prepare the next generation of counselors by providing them with opportunities to build an identity as scholar practitioners and educational leaders. She also likes to encourage counseling graduate students to pursue an advanced degree, such as an Ed.D. or Ph.D., so that their voices are heard in the literature of their chosen field.
Please join us in congratulating and thanking Dr. Landeros for her exceptional service to students and their success! ๐

Today, faculty who participated in the Affordable Learning $olutions (AL$) Initiative were recognized for their contributions in providing their students with more affordable, quality educational content.
By reducing student course material expenses, more students acquire the course materials they need to succeed and benefit from their learning experience. As a result, faculty and students have greater access to quality free and low-cost learning materials through a variety of AL$ programs and partnerships.
In this academic year 2023-24, there were 235 total faculty participants, saving students nearly $2.8M! Kudos to all CSUDH faculty, and in particular, the COE faculty for making education more equitable through the AL$ Initiative! ๐

We would like to congratulate Dr. Jeff Sapp, Professor in our Division of Teacher Education, for receiving the 2024 Presidential Outstanding Professor Award! ๐
The Outstanding Professor Awards were originally established by the Board of Trustees of The California State University in September 1963 to give recognition for excellence in teaching. In 1995, the statewide awards were discontinued, but Dominguez Hills continued the program as an annual campus-based award. Revised in 2004 and now called the Presidential Outstanding Professor Award, this honor recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in all areas of faculty performance, i.e., as a teacher, as a member of their profession, and as a member of the campus and community.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Sapp for this award and for his contributions to the teaching profession, to our College of Education, and to CSUDH! ๐ Dr. Sapp considers his students to be the most precious of awards.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Ed Curammeng, Associate Professor in our Division of Teacher Education, for receiving the 2024 Excellence in Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (RSCA) Award! ๐
The Excellence in RSCA Award was established in 2004 to acknowledge that research, scholarship, and creative activity are essential components of the mission of CSUDH. Moreover, this award recognizes that these professional activities provide intellectual stimulation and motivation for student learning, are an impetus for students to emulate the work of their professors, and bring recognition and prestige to the institution; that it is important to recognize faculty who are working at the frontier of their discipline and contributing to human knowledge; that maintaining current involvement in their disciplines enables CSUDH faculty to be part of, and to reach out to, the academic community at large as well as the immediate community that we serve; that scholarship, research, and creative activity distinguish the professional work of faculty in higher education; and further, that the CSUDH has a tradition of excellent research, scholarship, and creative activity.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Curammeng for this award and for his contributions to research, scholarship, and creative activity in the College of Education and at CSUDH! ๐
