One of my Pickens County Meals on Wheels recipients has a service dog that is part Husky and German Shepherd.

The recipient has used Uber in the past because the recipient is not able to drive. The cost to take the recipient and the service dog is at least $100. That’s just Uber.

I am willing to transport and pick up if we can find a groomer close by to help.

This morning we called Pickens County Humane Society and asked if they could use some towels that we didn’t have space for.

Susan McLane Rowland, my elf for the day delivered the towels and in return we received much needed dog food to help our community from PCHS.

Thank you, PCHS

If anyone is in the area, Elf Susan needs help unloading. I’m headed out to do Meals on Wheels.

You have come a long way, Molly.

Molly was found on the side of the road in Six Mile. Good Samaritan transported Molly to Magnolia. Molly had a huge open wound on top of her, bladder stones and a UTI.

Molly continued her care at Keowee Animal Hospital where the flap on top of her head was sutured, received cold laser treatment and the laser treatment definitely speeded the healing of her wound. Bladder stones were removed and this has helped her so much.

Molly had a microchip but the owners who gave her away because they moved to Florida. Owners were contacted and they showed no interest in her condition or getting her back.

Many of you donated to her care and I know you will agree, she was worth it. Molly is still with her foster parents and they had her groomed.

Cannon is officially ours. His stray hold is up.

Last Monday, a very kind Clemson student named Cannon found this little guy. He tried several places with visits and phone calls before coming to us.

This little guy needed medical help and Keowee Animal Hospital agreed to see him that day. We had secured a foster. Cannon was diagnosed with stage 4 heart murmur, heartworm positive, fractured leg that had never been treated and the worse UTI I have ever seen.

I spoke with the foster this morning and his UTI has improved. Cannon is scheduled for 2 more laser treatments this week. Foster said he is putting more weight on his leg but still does a “ paw stand” to potty. In other words, he does a hand stands with his front legs. It’s hilarious. If the laser treatment doesn’t improve his mobility, we will take our advice from Dr Parker.

Because of his heart murmur and being heartworm positive, he is not out of the woods. He does need to be neutered but that decision will be made by Dr Parker. It would be a risk putting him under anesthesia.

We will not consider adopting him at this time. He is in good hands with his foster and the foster lives near Keowee Animal Hospital.

So, far we have spent around $350 in Cannon’s care. He is so worth it.

Sarah Lynn Martin, Head Mafia Boss for the Central Mafia has enlisted me to “lean” on people to pick up a tag from the Christmas tree at First Citizens Bank in Clemson.

Those tags are for people that receive Pickens County Meals on Wheels. Once all the tags are removed you will return a gift full of goodies to the bank for each MOW recipient.

Each MOW recipient will receive a gift at Christmas, along with their meal. I have been participating in this for the last few years and it is so much fun. To my knowledge, there has never been a tag left on the tree.

Go by First Citizens Bank located on Hwy 93, in Clemson.

WE NEED CAT FOOD.

Clemson Paw Partners is listed on Chewy as a rescue to donate to. We have chosen the following brands and sizes that we need.

Instead of us asking constantly, would you be willing to do a monthly subscription for at least 6 months.

When we gave away cat and dog in Pickens, the demand for cat food caused us to make 3 trips to Walmart and Dollar General to replace. After spending close to $500, we still ran out.

If you can spare $20 month to send cat food, it would help others in need so much. chewy.com

Jennifer Hill, teaching Charlie how to fold long sleeve tshirts. I will miss Charlie during the Christmas holidays. Charlie likes to stay busy. Our cages have never been so clean. Always eager to please. Never complains.

“‘Tis The Season”

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!

This sweet baby was taken to the vet today. Good Samaritan is also fostering. Not conclusive, but this girl may have been used as an ashtray.

She is experiencing diarrhea and cannot hold anything on her stomach. Right now, things are slow and steady. Probably from eating who knows what trying to survive.

As much as we complain about bad people, I also believe in the goodness of people. This Good Samaritan is an example of goodness.

Cannon Fincher, a senior at Clemson majoring in forestry is an awesome young man who rescued this little fella. Very nice young man.

Cannon Update.

5 Day Stray hold

Heartworm Positive

Grade 4 Heart Murmur

Terrible UTI. The worse I have ever seen. Even Dr Parker said it was bad.

Right rear leg appears to be an old injury that has never been treated. The ball in the socket is crushed. Laser treatment was done and we saw a little minor improvement in his flexibility after the treatment. He will receive another treatment on Thursday

Cannon has not been neutered and had no collar on when brought into the clinic. And he is a young dog.

But with all these Issues, this little guy is precious. Loves being held. Will snuggle up under your chin.

He is in a great foster home and not consider anything until the 5 day is up. But most importantly is we make sure he is medically ok

Photos from Clemson Paw Partners's post 11/27/2023

We are calling him Cannon. We named him after the Clemson student who found him. Right now we are at Keowee Animal Hospital who graciously agreed to see Cannon. Cannon has the worse urinary infection I have ever seen.

Right now, we have a foster. So Cannon is safe. I will update everyone later.

Small terrier type dog with injured leg was found by Clemson student. No microchip. Male dog. Clemson student has been to Anderson County PAWS, called Oconee Humane Society. No one can help.

Found on Old Stone Church Rd in Clemson which is Pickens County. This little dog needs rescue not shelter. Very laid back.

We have asked the student to keep
safe so we can help.

Update November 28th. We have foster and we are the rescue.

The most expensive engine on wheels is food in a grocery cart. We witnessed this yesterday at the Doodle Trail in Pickens with people needing cat and dog food.

Sorry we didn’t have as much cat food. Hopefully our next giveaway we will have more that has been donated. We made 3 trips to buy more at close to $500 and we still ran out.

I will let everyone know our next location. We hope we were able to help you.

11/26/2023

If you are a Pickens County resident, take your cat or dog to Oconee to be spayed neutered. They will not do Feral cats for Pickens residents unless you pay the low cost price.

Please check our clinic hours as they sometimes vary from week to week and call ahead 864-765-6926. Thank you!! ♥️🐾🐾

Today, is my day to deliver for Pickens County Meals on Wheels. I have 5 sweet men who are so kind and appreciative. One has a dog and food will be delivered to his dog.

I asked all of them what their favorite soup was. Vegetable. I made a huge crockpot of homemade vegetable soup and each of them will get enough to last on the days MOW doesn’t deliver on the holidays. But MOW will provide additional meals to carry them through the holidays.

MOW needs more volunteers to help prepare the meals and drivers to deliver. I promise it will make your day better and a better person.

Message from our Founder and President, Margaret Thompson.

In 2002, I retired from the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina. I was a Master Deputy. I thought I had seen everything in law enforcement until I started volunteering at the animal shelter in Pickens in the summer of 2017. I have owned both cats and dogs for the past 45 years and I rescued both cats and dogs while I was on patrol.

One of my dogs, Benji was a male Shih Tzu mix who I found limping in a trailer park because he had been struck by a car. I located the owner, who said they couldn’t afford to have Benji treated so I offered the owner the last dime I had in my pocket for Benji which was $23. The owner took my money and went back to sunbathing, smoking ci******es and drinking beer. Not an unusual circumstance in the life of a law enforcement officer. There were others who went home with me and lived a very good life. Most of them have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

But working at the shelter was some of the hardest work I have ever done. It was very humbling to witness what animals go through from abuse and neglect. There were days I went home emotionally drained from what I experienced. So I decided to start Clemson Paw Partners and our goal is to focus on spay/neuter. I hope you will join us in our journey to improve animals lives.
