🎊Congratulations🎊 on achieving Eagle Scout, Dashel! 🦅

Dashel's mother, Esmeralda, says, "He is the first Eagle in all of our families and we couldn't be more proud! Dashel Mason Hornyak held and passed his Eagle Board of Review on Aug. 17th, 2023. He is with Troop 520 in N. Arlington and part of the Arrowhead District.

Dashel was recently awarded the Anchorman Award and was Ship Capt of the Good Ship Black Stallion at Aquatic School 2023. He is also a Youth Presidential Gold Award Recipient, acknowledged by President Biden, holding one of the highest awards for civilians for outstanding Community Service. He is on the Drumline at his high school, on the Varsity Swim Team and on the JV track team. His future plans are to Staff NYLT, Aquatic School, and hopefully attend the Air Force Academy in the Fall of 2026."

The most celebrated tradition in Scouting is coming!

Did you know the Pinewood Derby was first introduced in 1953 by Don Murphy, a Cubmaster in California? His goal was to create an activity that would foster a closer relationship between father and son when his son was too young to participate in the Soap Box Derby. Who knew this activity would still be going after 70 years? This activity isn't just for the boys anymore! So, get your creative engines going- it's time to RACE!

THE NIGHT BEFORE PINEWOOD (A Poem)

‘Twas the night before Pinewood, His car still needed lead,
He had done his very best when his mom yelled, “Get to bed!”
He climbed under his blanket. His car wasn’t ready to race,
The pinewood derby was tomorrow. There was a frown on his face.
Just as his eyes closed he heard something spin.
It was Scout Saint Nick coming to help him win!
As he peeked from under the covers, Scout Saint Nick started to drill,
To help his car speed on its way down the hill.
He splashed on some paint and stuck on some wheels.
He put the car on its stand and clicked his bootheels.
This woke the young scout,
A happy Pinewood to all, And to all a good race!
