After eleven memorable years, Meriwether Springs will no longer operate as a winery and brewery. We thank you for all of your support and will always be grateful to you for making Meriwether the special place it was for us and for so many after.

Our Story

Meriwether Springs is Albemarle County’s first Vineyard AND Brewery. Located less than a mile from downtown Ivy and minutes from the University of Virginia and Charlottesville, it has been one of the area’s best (and best-located) vineyard estates since 2013. The Meriwether Springs team added a brewery to the estate and opened the entire facility to the public in August 2018.

Situated on 40 beautiful and private acres, including a five acre vineyard adjacent to the house, Meriwether Springs is a sanctuary of natural beauty and a place for everyone in your family to enjoy.

The vineyard sits on the original estate of the famed explorer, Meriwether Lewis. Lewis was commissioned by Thomas Jefferson to lead an exploration of the recently acquired Louisiana Purchase and to continue until the expedition reached the Pacific Coast. After a long and dangerous journey, the explorer and his party reached the mouth of the Columbia River at the Pacific Ocean. Meriwether Lewis returned to Charlottesville, briefed Thomas Jefferson on the expedition’s findings and maintained a close friendship with President Jefferson throughout his lifetime.

One of the original family springhouses remains undisturbed and easily accessible just beyond The Grove and our wooded beer garden.
