At the recent Oak Grove neighborhood association meeting, we were honored to have Sonya Reaves from The Family Justice Center!

She gave an insightful presentation on resources available for abuse survivors, including counseling, legal assistance, and emergency shelter.

Her dedication and passion for helping those in need were evident, and her presence greatly inspired our community to further support and engage with these critical initiatives.

Thank you Sonya!⭐️

June 19th, 1865 -- Galveston, Texas:
Gordon Granger stood on Texas soil and read General Orders No. 3:

"The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free."

---
Troops arrived a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The complete abolition of slavery occurred 87 years after 1776.

Today, we celebrate the progress which was made by generations of Black Americans, but also acknowledge the work that remains in fight for true equality. Let's celebrate Juneteenth by learning more about our history, to amplify Black voices, and commit to building a more JUST future.

Be sure to check out the Juneteenth festivities occurring all week, developed and hosted by Chattanooga Festival of Black Arts & Ideas!

We had a great turnout for the Oak Grove neighborhood cleanup event!✨

Many neighbors volunteered to cover the 11 clean up routes designed to beautify our community. The day started at 9am and we made SIGNIFICANT progress!🤩

We’ve identified fallen utility lines, illegal dumping sites, and collected over 30 bags of garbage. A huge THANK YOU to the residents who dedicated their time to this cause! 🎉😄

We celebrated the rockstar teachers and staff at East Side Elementary with a "Nacho Average" appreciation morning!⭐️

We partnered with Oak Grove residents and served up a delicious nacho bar to serve all educators and staff. It was an amazing event honoring those who nurture our kids' minds and futures.

A huge thanks to all the volunteers who made this special day possible! Our neighborhood is grateful for the exceptional staff at East Side. We love our Chattanooga educators! 😎👩‍🏫

UPDATE! The Ridgedale Neighborhood had a SUCCESSFUL Spring Clean-Up of the community garden and surrounding blocks. 🌳❤️

With the help of Ridgedale neighborhood volunteers, Chattanooga Public Works and Scenic Cities Beautiful, the RCA was able to fill a large dumpster with trash and debris -- in just a few hours!

Two years worth of debris needed to be removed from the community garden lot, and it was! A great partnership of layering community resources and helping hands -- keep up the BEAUTIFUL work Ridgedale!😍
