👀 When this nutrition client came to me in May she wanted weight loss, but when we set her SMART goal we realized she needed to focus on sleep first. 😴

Yoga helps with depression. Studies prove it. 💖
“After eight weeks, yoga participants had a significantly greater reduction in depressive symptoms than waitlisted participants, as assessed through what’s known as the clinician-rated Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (IDS-CR) scale.
Also, investigators observed that 59.3 percent of yoga participants had a 50 percent or greater decrease in symptoms, compared with 6.3 percent of waitlist participants. Moreover, 44 percent in the yoga arm achieved such low IDS-CR scores that their depression was considered in remission, compared with 6.3. percent in the waitlist arm.
Heated yoga may reduce depression in adults In a randomized controlled clinical trial, heated yoga sessions led to reduced depressive symptoms in adults with moderate-to-severe depression.

❌ It’s a common misconception that yoga is a religion. ❌
🧘♀️ While yoga derives from ancient Indian spiritual practices, it’s not a religion. Especially in Western American culture.
🇺🇸 We the people have “Americanized” it and it’s much more of a workout and space to calm your mind and body amidst the stressors of today’s world.
🧘♀️ Meditation can be used in the Christian faith just as much as any other faith or it can be practiced without any faith at all.
💫 I encourage you to let go of pre-conceived notions and give it a try. You might find it’s exactly what you need. And if you don’t? That’s ok too. 👍🏼

🦶 I’ve spent the last 3 weeks recovering from foot surgery. It’s been quiet the process. I’m missing my daily workouts but making good use of that extra time creating the “Calm and Focused Kids in the Classroom” training. Currently this is offered in person for PD days, but as of January it will be offered digitally as a self paced course!

These 2 Kindergarten friends are very active boys and still learning the expectations at school. I was solo teaching these 2 classes today and decided on the fly that we’d do Kid’s yoga instead of the planned activity that would’ve been too chaotic for this group. 😡 They grumbled and were mad about it. I encouraged them to give it a chance. About 10 minutes into class they were begging to do “Zoom Zoom” again. I was trying to calm the other friends down and look over to see these 2 were already in the pose ready to go. As seen behind them, no one else was doing this. I was SO shocked, I had to snap a photo and tell their teacher all about it. 🙌🏼 Y’all, I will continue to shout it from the rooftops, kids NEED yoga. Children’s yoga is FUN and not at all like an adult yoga setting BUT they are learning calming techniques, how to focus and how to reduce stress and don’t even realize it. This photo is a testament to that and it is why I created a school yoga program. Their teacher invited me to come anytime because she saw the value in this picture. If it sounds too good to be true, then it’s too good to be true. Regular chocolate can be full of sugar and pack a ton of calories. 👀
If you want to lose weight while eating chocolate, you must choose the right kind of chocolate and do so in moderation.

Did you know that when you drink a can of soda and eat a candy bar, you have just suppressed your immune system for 6 hours? 😳😞
This is why we notice some children getting sick after this Easter Holiday and all the candy that is consumed. Their immune systems are being attacked!
Sugar creates destructive bacteria that hangs out in our intestines. Our immune system resides largely in our gut and the more bad bacteria that it has to get rid of, the harder it is for the immune system to fight disease.
Explain to them what is happening in their bodies when too much candy is consumed, and find balance during this Easter season.
