USDA APHIS announced today that highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been found in Wyoming. Some IMPORTANT information about HPAI
- It DOES NOT present an immediate public health concern and no human cases of these avian influenza viruses have been detected in the US.
- Proper handling and cooking of all poultry and eggs to an internal temperature of 165 หF is recommended as a general food safety precaution.
- Affected premises have been quarantined, and birds on the properties will be depopulated to prevent the spread of the disease.
- Birds from the flocks will not enter the food system
- Anyone involved in poultry production at any level should should review their biosecurity activities to assure the health of their birds.
- If you have sick birds, call 1-866-536-7593.

The USDA recently announced a new grant program for meat processors across the country. The USDA Meat and Poultry Inspection Readiness Grant program is focused on increasing capacity and expanding access in meat and poultry inspection operations. As part of HB0049 that was signed into law on April 6, 2021, all food licenses issued by the WDA will increase from the previous year effective July 1, 2021. This means, a new license will increase from $100 to $200, a renewal of license will increase from $50 to $100, and all temporary permits will increase from $25 to $50. Any new license, renewal, or temporary permits issued on or after July 1st, 2021 will pay the increased amount. 54 total animals were donated in 2020 to Food from the Farm + Ranch by Wyoming ranchers to provide for Wyoming families. In 2021, we have already distributed protein to multiple anti-hunger organizations across the state. In April, Wyoming Hunger Initiative has partnered with Cigna to match Governor Gordonโs salary donation to purchase additional protein and distribute it across the cowboy state. Wyoming is a state of plenty and agricultural solutions are a key element to reducing and eliminating hunger.

โผ๏ธALERTโผ๏ธ Wyoming aquarium owners are urged to remove โmoss ballsโ from their tanks and boil the plant and any tank water before properly disposing. Moss balls of many varieties meant for aquarium dรฉcor have been found to carry zebra mussels. Zebra mussels are an aquatic invasive species (AIS) and can cause severe damage to municipal water systems and natural waters.
