Wyoming National Guard License Plate Renewal and Application Information
Good morning Airmen and Soldiers of the Wyoming National Guard,
As many of you have probably seen, our state is introducing a new license plate design. This update includes a fresh look for our National Guard plates as well. With this change, a new "rack and stack" of plate numbers will be issued for those interested in obtaining National Guard (NG) plates. If you currently hold an NG plate, you will need to resubmit an application to receive the updated plate design.
Eligibility:
As a member of the Wyoming National Guard, you are eligible to apply for one (1) set of special license plates for the following vehicle types:
Passenger car
Truck
Motorcycle
Handicapped motorcycle
Motor home
Current Plate Holders:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) will send out renewal application reminders in the last quarter of the fiscal year. If you already have a National Guard plate, follow the instructions in the reminder to submit your renewal application.
New Plate Holders:
If you do not currently hold an NG plate but would like to apply for one, please visit the following website for the application: National Guard Plate Application
Application Process:
Once your application is received by the Wyoming National Guard POC, you will be assigned a plate number based on your rank and date of rank (DOR). This process applies to both current Guard members and retirees.
Please ensure you submit one of the following documents with your application to verify your DOR or, for retirees, proof of separation from the Wyoming National Guard:
Record Brief
Career Data Brief
DD214
Note: If the required documentation is not included with your application, it will not be processed.
Timeline:
Application deadline: October 31, 2024
The rack and stack process for plate numbers will begin in November 2024.
Applications submitted after October 31 will be processed after all on-time applications have been handled.
New plate designs will begin distribution starting in January 2025. You will receive your new plate when your vehicle registration is due.
Remembering September 11, 2001
Today, we pause to honor the memory of those we lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the nearly 3,000 lives taken too soon, the first responders who showed extraordinary bravery, and the countless individuals whose lives were forever changed by that tragic day.
As we reflect on the events of 9/11, let us also remember the spirit of unity and resilience that emerged in the face of unimaginable adversity. We stand in solidarity with the families who grieve, the communities who rebuild, and the heroes who continue to inspire us with their courage and selflessness.
May we never forget the lessons learned from that day: the value of empathy, the strength of community, and the importance of cherishing each moment with our loved ones. Let us honor the memory of those who were lost by striving to create a world filled with hope, peace, and compassion.
To all those affected, you are in our hearts and thoughts today and always. We remember, we honor, and we stand together.

Command Chief Warrant Officer 5 Derek Fisbeck of the Wyoming Army National Guard presented the Legion of Merit to retired Chief Warrant Officer 5 Doug Drost and retired Chief Warrant Officer 5 John Fisher during an award ceremony in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on Aug. 2, 2024.
Doug Drost served for 38 years, including deployments in support of Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005. He played a crucial role in ensuring Wyoming passed multiple aviation resource management surveys, which maintained the state's ability to conduct vital search and rescue missions and fire suppression operations, safeguarding the lives and properties of countless citizens throughout his career. He concluded his distinguished career as the fourth command chief warrant officer for the Wyoming Army National Guard.
John Fisher also served for 38 years, as the state senior property management specialist for the Joint Force Headquarters, his efforts were instrumental in the successful mobilization of units and the long-term readiness of the entire organization to support combat operations worldwide.
Every year on August 14th, we honor the incredible contributions of the Navajo Code Talkers, whose unique skills were vital to the success of the U.S. during WWII. This day also highlights the powerful role of Native American languages in shaping military history.
While the Navajo Code Talkers played a key role in WWII, it’s important to remember that Native American languages were utilized by the U.S. military even earlier. During WWI, the Choctaw language was used to transmit coded messages, paving the way for future code talkers.
Under the clear Wyoming sky on July 25, 2024, Command Chief Master Sgt. Josh Moore proudly rode alongside his daughter, Kaelan, as part of the mounted color guard in the Cheyenne Frontier Days Parade—the first father-daughter duo since 2007. 'We will share this moment forever,' Moore said, celebrating their shared pride in tradition, state, and country. Cheyenne Frontier Days is a week-long celebration filled with rodeos, concerts, and more, with the grand parade as its highlight, led by the honored mounted color guard.
