Our President & CEO Carolyn Ross was honored to serve on the Racial Equity Roundtable on Black Homelessness, making recommendations to Gov Pritzker on how to address racial disparities in homelessness. Thank you to the UIC Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy for coordinating this project and convening the Roundtable for essential discussions.
New IRRPP Report is now available: Black Homelessness in Illinois: Structural Drivers of Inequality. Last year, the Illinois Office to Prevent and End Homelessness tasked IRRPP with investigating the structural factors driving racial disparities in rates of Black homelessness in Illinois. Our research was guided by a Racial Equity Roundtable on Black Homelessness composed of Black leaders and experts from around the state supporting the homeless population. The report outlines how structural factors such as a lack of affordable housing, evictions, incarceration, unemployment, healthcare access, and aging out of foster care often push Black residents in Illinois toward homelessness.
