Several of our surrounding Democratic ward organizations have come together to offer an opportunity for folks to see and hear from the various candidates presenting themselves for consideration to full the unexpired term of the late Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough. Thanks to our neighbors for putting this together:

This Thursday evening (Apr. 25, 2024), Democratic Committeepeople are hosting a special virtual forum to meet candidates seeking the appointment or Democratic nominee slating for Cook County Clerk.

Due to the expected passing of Clerk Karen Yarbrough, The Cook County Democratic Party will convene on Friday, April 26 at 9:00 am for the temporary appointment through December 2024 and the slating of Democratic nominee for the Cook County Clerk position to the November ballot to serve out the final two years of Clerk Yarbrough's unexpired term.

Learn more about the process, the role of Clerk, and the candidates interested in the position during this special forum on Thursday, April 25 from 7 PM to 9 PM. RSVP is required.

It’s been a really long day on the floor and we’re all tired, but 2 of my bills that are extra close to my heart just passed. It may look easy since they passed unanimously. What you don’t see is the years of work, study, and negotiation that went into that result.

HB5373 has been a labor of love for a few years now that came about from our efforts to help a constituent who lives with chronic pain access her medication. Our efforts over the years to address the growing opioid crisis have led to overly aggressive regulations that have the opposite of the intended effect. When patients are cut off from their meds, they all too often are driven to the illicit market, dangerous drugs, and tragedy. I am so excited to call my constituent in the morning and let her know we are well on our way to hopeful relief.

I’m also so thankful to AIDS Foundation Chicago and Timothy S. Jackson for entrusting me with the HIV TLC Act (Treatment and Linkage to Care). Tim is a force of nature in this building and worked tirelessly to address questions and concerns about the bill, which brings us all one step closer to Getting To Zero new HIV infections in the state.
Two committee hearings left, two more bills to move tomorrow.

Please join the Democratic Party of the 49th Ward for what may be our last petition party of the season - we’re getting close to hitting our goals, so if you’ve been mearning to get over to one of our gatherings, today’s the day! We’ll be at Jarvis Square Tavern, (1502 W Jarvis) indoors and outside, from 1-4pm today. Join us for a drink, sign a few petitions, and meet the folks who are working to earn your vote in March!

ETA: Folks, these candidates are out here hustling. Last night we realized we were short on sheets for Mariyana Spyropoulos and Clayton Harris III and started calling around to get more in time for the party. When I tell you that Mariyana was dropping sheets through my mail slot as my tired old butt was heading to bed, I am not exaggerating one bit.

I couldn’t be more proud to congratulate the amazing Precious Brady-Davis for being selected by the Governor to fill the vacancy on the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Board! The Democratic Party of the 49th Ward made her race one of our highest priorities last cycle. She’s an incredibly talented professional with true environmental justice chops, something more urgently needed than ever having just gone through a combined climate crisis of torrential downfalls and flooding coinciding with dangerous air quality alerts due to forest fires in Canada.
We’re excited for Precious to hit the ground running, and will be there with her as she seeks to retain the seat in the next election.
