On the 71st anniversary of the July 26 Movement, artists, musicians and organizers congregated for the fourth Artists Against Apartheid event in Chicago. This event, called Artists Against the Blockade, raised funds for medical aid in occupied Palestine and Cuba. The event, hosted at healthy hood in the Little Village neighborhood, held more than 300 attendees, 21 art vendors, 16 performers and speakers, and raised nearly $10,000 for medical relief efforts in Palestine as well as the Hatuey Project, an initiative to support Cuba’s health care system, which is strangled by the U.S. blockade on Cuba. Attendees also donated nearly 100 books to support the launch of Nabala Cafe, a new Palestinian-owned cafe in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood.

“It’s really blossomed into this incredible community — and it’s not just a one time event, it really is a time to bring community together, but also to organize from it,” .favorites said. “It’s been beautiful how much it’s grown, but also so devastating that we’ve had to keep going this going — the genocide of Palestine’s been ongoing for 10 months now. And so this is our fourth iteration. It will not be our last. We’re gonna keep this going until Palestine is free.”

Volunteers with the campaign spent the evening speaking with working-class people across Chicago!

We talked with people at length about their desire to end the war on Black America, guarantee working people’s ability to survive, and end the genocide in Palestine.

Despite the Democrats ticketing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as a desperate attempt to save their party, the people are ready for an alternative.

In the prior three events, they raised 25,000 from ticket sales and vendor donations. As of writing, $6000 was raised from ticket and raffle sales alone, with donations from vendors still being counted."

🎬 Join us for a screening and discussion of Eyes on the Rainbow. This 1997 documentary by Gloria Rolando was recorded in Cuba, 33 years after Shakur's escape from the Clinton Correctional Facility for Women. In the film, she discusses her experience as a political prisoner, the influence of her grandmother, Afro-Cuban ancestry, and more. To this day, Assata remains on the FBI Most Wanted list, living in exile under political asylum in Cuba.

✊🏾 Over 100 members of the Chicago community gathered at Federal Plaza today to make a stand against the vicious murder of Sonya Massey by Sangamon County cop Sean Grayson.

Speakers and crowd members emphasized the connection between the killing of Massey and violence by the Israeli occupation in Palestine. The international exchange of training between the Israeli military and police forces in the USA is well-known, instilling the use of brutal state violence into law enforcement. Cops are taught by apartheid Israel's military, accelerating excessive use of force on the most vulnerable members of our communities.

When Sonya Massey called for help, she received an ex*****on instead. Chicago knows that she should still be alive today.
