“These are absolutely transformational times.” New research reported this week at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference suggests that, in the future, highly accurate blood tests could improve diagnosis in primary care, making testing more accessible and less invasive. They could also provide a quicker path to research participation and treatment.

Because you fundraise for Walk to end Alzheimer's, research like this is possible. Thank you!

In a large research study, reported for the first time at and partially funded by the Association, blood tests 🩸 did a better job of accurately detecting Alzheimer's than primary care doctors and specialists who were using traditional diagnostic methods.

The test was around 90% accurate in identifying Alzheimer’s in patients with cognitive symptoms at primary care and specialized memory care clinics compared to 63% and 73% accuracy when not using the test.

Why this is exciting: Highly accurate blood tests could drastically reduce the time it takes to get a diagnosis, as well as accelerate access to new treatments.

Former University of Missouri football coach Warren Powers and his wife, Linda, didn't have children but they treated all of their nieces and nephews like their own. When Warren was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Linda became a tireless caregiver and passionate advocate for the Alzheimer's Association. Their niece, Amy, continues her Aunt Linda's mission in honor of her Uncle Warren through her passionate advocacy and fundraising.
