Our Story
GlobeMed at UC was founded in the fall of 2011, and is partnered with a healthcare organization, Social Action for Children and Women (SAW), in Mae Sot, Thailand. SAW works to provide better healthcare for Burmese refugees who live as migrant workers in Thailand and face many challenges to achieving good health and well-being. SAW operates programs that aim to help HIV/AIDS victims, human-trafficking victims, orphans, etc. and also provide education to children of all ages.
Together, we create healthcare programs and budgets that will help create sustainable change. Not only do we raise the funds on campus to implement said programs, but we also strive to raise awareness about both local and global health issues and social injustices.
We have since raised over $70,000 for SAW, and have sent 5 members each summer to Mae Sot to observe the implementation of our Community Health Outreach Program!
