Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season. We are ending this week by saying THANK YOU to Mrs. Brandi Blackley, Northwest High School Principal. Mrs. Blackley is the captain that keeps the ship afloat. Thank you for all you do for our students, teachers, and the Northwest community.
Tomorrow (5/1/24) - NWHS criminal justice classes in partnership with the local law enforcement will be participating in various demonstrations focused on the classes’ standards. Please know if there is an increase in law enforcement presence on campus – do not be alarmed. This is just an opportunity for our students to experience real-life scenarios with community partners. Thanks in advance to Coach Bedell and members of law enforcement for this opportunity.

This year West Creek hosted the Top Shooter competition for the district. Only 1 individual (top shot) from each school in the district advanced to this competition for each category, Advanced and New Shooter (1st Year). This competition only had first-place winners.
Jack Sellick took 1st for the Advanced Shooters with a 254
Dalus Gribbin took 1st for the New/1st Year Shooters with a 245
It was a very close competition as most of ours have been this year, Sellick beat the WC Cadet by 1 point and Gribbin had a significant lead by 10 points. Congratulations gentleman and 1SG Schwartzkopf!
At the FFA State Convention at the end of March Rylin Carlson received her State Degree and Northwest FFA was recognized as a Superior Chapter. The Northwest community is so proud of our agriculture department and the opportunities we expose students to!
Grace Hanna, Isis Palmer, and Jai’shon Dix represented NWHS at the CMCSS Battle of the Books and landed us in 2nd place this year! They answered 95/100 questions correctly, so it was a really close one! Congratulations 🎉
With yearbook distribution day coming up Northwest is excited to share some outstanding news!! Out of over 1,000 schools across the country, Northwest was selected to be featured in the 2024 LookBook which showcases the “best of the best” in the yearbook world. Our 2023 book “Live in the Moment” was featured and the students received a copy of the award and printout today. This award is given to schools with outstanding graphic design, photography, excellence, creativity, inclusion, and innovation. We were featured twice. One for achieving a Gold Level Program of Excellence and the second for the actual graphic design and layout of the book (this is actually the hardest to accomplish!). Our book is printed in this showcase which will be distributed to over 11,000 high schools across the US, Canada, and internationally.
It is National Librarian Day and our Vikings are the BEST!
We are so thankful for our Librarians and Media Assistant!
