It’s Hip to Chip🏠🐾

May is Microchip Awareness Month!

More pets go missing on July 4th than any other day. It is estimated that 1 in 3 pets will go missing in their lifetime. Without permanent identification, 90% of those lost pets will not return home.

This month, we are pleased to offer HomeAgain Microchipping and Lifetime Enrollment for only $38.50!

With the beautiful weather coming, we hope you and your furry friend will be out enjoying the sunshine. However, dogs can slip out of collars and cats can sneak through closing doors. Microchipping gives your pet a permanent identification number that is registered to you, which increases the odds that you will be reunited with your furry family member. Our HomeAgain microchips cover your pet for their entire life, unlike other subscription services, and can be scanned by any universal scanner. Microchipping does not hurt your pet, require surgery, or wear out, but does give your pet the best chance of coming back to you!

Heartworms are no joke❤️‍🩹🪱

April is Heartworm Awareness Month!!

Enjoy $10 OFF when you buy 6 months of heartworm prevention and $20 OFF of 12 months of heartworm prevention from our clinic!!

When you buy 12 doses of prevention, you will automatically be entered into a chance to win a $50 Emerald Animal Hospital account credit! Drawing will be held on May 1st and we will contact the winner.

Heartworm disease is a life-threatening condition, but fortunately, it is easily prevented. It only takes one bite from an infected mosquito to spread the heartworm parasite to your pet. It migrates through the bloodstream and settles in the heart, arteries, and lungs, where the adult worms can live for up to 7 years. Dogs and cats of all ages and breeds are at risk; a monthly, year-round pill or topical medication is an affordable way to make sure your pet is safe from heartworm. Some products also protect against other harmful parasites, such as intestinal worms, fleas, ticks, or mites. A simple blood test can confirm that your pet is heartworm-free. Then, depending on your lifestyle, the proper prevention will be chosen!

Keep those Canines Clean 🦷🐾

February is Pet Dental Health Month!

If you schedule a dental procedure between February 1st and February 29th, you can enjoy $40 off your pet’s cleaning!

Ask our staff for 20% off Perio Support!

Did you know, when plaque accumulates and tartar forms on your pet’s teeth, bacteria can then travel in the bloodstream of your pet, causing not only a painful mouth, but other problems, such as heart, kidney, and liver disease? It is vital to the health of your pet that a routine dental care program be implemented. It’s never too early or late to begin routine dental care at home. Teach your puppy or kitten that getting their teeth brushed is a fun game with yummy, vet-approved toothpaste. If your pet already has tartar buildup, then the first step is to call our office and schedule a dental examination. If a cleaning is necessary, anesthesia is required for proper charting and evaluation of periodontal disease as x-rays help us evaluate the tooth root under the gum-line; rotting or damaged teeth may need to be extracted. We use the same ultrasonic scaler and polisher that human dentists use! After the cleaning, the teeth will be free of hard tartar buildup, and you can begin routine care at home.

Happy Mew Year 🥳🐾

January is Health Awareness Month!

If we determine your pet needs a prescription weight loss diet, or if they are already on one, you will receive 10% OFF!!

Animals become overweight because they take in more calories than they burn; making sure your pet is eating an appropriate diet for their life stage and activity level is crucial. Using an actual measuring cup to determine the amount of food your pet is consuming, as well as tracking of extra calories in treats, can keep your pet on the right track to stay fit. A routine exercise program will benefit your pet physically, mentally, and emotionally.

A survey conducted by the Association of Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP) found 52.5% of dogs and 58.3% of cats are overweight or obese, as reported by their veterinarian. This equals roughly 80 million U.S. dogs and cats at increased risk for weight-related disorders such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, hypertension, difficulty breathing, and many cancers. Pet obesity rates continue to increase and even simply performing a thorough physical exam can be difficult with an obese patient. Most importantly, overweight pets do not live as long and have a decreased quality of life.

Feel free to stop in any time for us to weigh and monitor your pet’s weight loss progress!

Welcome the Golden Years💛🐾

November is Senior Pet Awareness Month!

This month we are offering:

$10 OFF Senior Wellness Exams
$5 OFF All Joint Supplements

We recommend that senior pets be examined twice a year to ensure that we are not missing small changes that could make a big impact on quality of life. Since our beloved pets unfortunately age faster than we do (on average, about 7 years to every human year depending on the weight and size of the animal), it is important that we notice these subtle changes that could impact their health. Dogs over the age of 7 and cats over the age of 10 are considered seniors and these elderly pets are especially prone to developing certain diseases, such as thyroid hormone imbalances, diabetes, and kidney failure. Common symptoms include weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea, increased drinking and urinating, trouble walking, changes in hair coat, or accidents in the house. Just like humans, your pet may develop arthritis and can be quite uncomfortable and pets do not always cry or whine when they are in pain; in fact, many of our furry friends show their pain by not eating, not having as much energy, having trouble getting up, or being reluctant to climb stairs or jump into the car. NEVER give over-the-counter medications to your pet unless directed by a veterinarian as certain human pain killers can be fatal to your pet!

Trick or Treat Yo'self!🎃🦇

October is Bloodwork Awareness Month!

For the entire month of October, we are thrilled to offer you $10.31 OFF wellness screening bloodwork if you mention this post at your pet’s appointment!

While your pet may appear to be doing well on the surface, there can be subtle changes occurring with his or her internal organs that are only detectable with bloodwork. Pets age at an accelerated rate compared to humans, and early detection of minor changes gives us the opportunity to intervene sooner, thus providing them with a longer, fuller life. Bloodwork allows the doctor to evaluate the red and white blood cells for signs of infection or inflammation, assess the liver and kidneys for signs of disease, check the blood sugar levels for diabetes, and monitor the thyroid hormone. Please call to schedule an appointment today and confirm your pet’s good health or identify the signs of disease early!

July is Feline Awareness Month!

Enjoy FREE roundworm deworming with your cat’s physical exam and $10 OFF Feline Leukemia and AIDS testing!!

Cats are America's #1 pet, but they may not be getting the veterinary care they need.Compared to dogs, nearly THREE times as many cats did not receive any veterinary care in the past year. Here are some tips to get your cat used to their carrier for a less stressful experience:

1. Leave the carrier out where your cat spends a lot of their time, and let them see and smell the carrier

2. Leave the door open and put a favorite blanket, toy, or treat inside to encourage your cat to investigate the carrier

3. You can place treats outside the carrier, and move the treats closer and closer each day

5. When your cat is comfortable going into the carrier by themself, you can try closing the door for small amounts of time

6. When your cat has become used to the door being closed, you can begin lifting the carrier with the cat in it, and walking a few steps before putting it back down. Do a little more each day

7. Ask your pet’s veterinarian if there are calming medications or products to help reduce anxiety for travel or their visit

We recommend keeping your pets on flea control YEAR ROUND to prevent infestations and spare your pets from uncomfortable allergic reactions, skin infections, and a variety of other diseases that can be transmitted by these little buggers. Please consult with us before using over the counter flea products. Excessive use of flea shampoos, along with smelly, flea collars, powders, and sprays can be toxic to your pet and cause seizures. Young kittens, and puppies are especially sensitive to these chemicals. We offer safe over the counter products, like Vectra 3D, that kill and repel ticks, mosquitoes, flies, mites, lice, and fleas quickly. If every pet in your household is treated monthly, the fleas don’t have a biting chance!
