MedVet is celebrating National Nonprofit Day by spotlighting a very special program near and dear to our caregivers: the AVMF REACH Program.

We understand unexpected pet emergencies and specialty veterinary care may be a financial burden for pet families — this program breaks down barriers to access veterinary care by offering grants to over 100,000 AVMA members nationwide. Through the AVMF REACH Program and on behalf of our clients, MedVet veterinarians proudly support charitable care when financial barriers could keep patients from getting the care they need.

If you're interested and able to support pet owners in financial need, please consider making a donation to AVMF's REACH Program by clicking the donation link on this post.

Did you know that once biopsied, if a mast cell tumor (MCT) is given a higher histopathology grade, they have a tendency to spread to other parts of the body? And despite a lower grade, there are some locations on the body which are considered high risk, such as the muzzle, paws, and ge****ls.

When Candie initially had a mast cell tumor removed by her nose, it was unfortunately confirmed as high-grade. Given its grading and the location on her body, Candie was referred to Dr. Rochelle Prudic from MedVet Cleveland's Oncology department for further evaluation.

Dr. Prudic's treatment plan included eight chemotherapy treatments, of which Candie has successfully completed. Prior to her last dose, Candie was given the terrific news that she staged clear! 👏 We will continue to monitor Candie for two years to ensure her staging remains clear.

Candie has been such a fun patient who has brought so much joy to MedVet, especially the oncology team!

Meet our patient, Eva, a 12-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer who visited MedVet Cleveland after her family veterinarian diagnosed a mass on her right rear paw as a mast cell tumor (MCT), the most common malignant skin tumor in dogs.

Our skilled surgeon, Dr. Adam Townsend, performed a digital amputation on Eva as part of her treatment plan, followed by chemotherapy with our oncologist, Dr. Rochelle Prudic.

We are happy to announce that Eva has graduated from her treatment protocol 🎓 join us in congratulating Eva and her family! 👏

With a history of a metastatic mast cell tumor on his left hind leg, Rigby's visit to Dr. Chas McBrien at MedVet Cleveland resulted in the initial removal of the mass, with the support of our anesthesiologist, Dr. Sarah Shane. Due to incomplete margins, Dr. Shawn Kennedy at MedVet Columbus performed a successful revision surgery, including lymph node removal.

Because Rigby's front leg was amputated when he was young from a fracture, we were unable to amputate his rear leg, so he was treated with vinblastine chemotherapy under the guidance of our oncologist, Dr. Rochelle Prudic.

We're thrilled to share Rigby recently celebrated his 2-year anniversary of cancer remission! He is also a rehabilitation patient of Dr. Kim Huppe-Raplenovich at MedVet Akron as part of MedVet's collaborative care approach across our network of locations. We are so proud of you, Rigby! 👏

Fun fact: Rigby's mom, Dana, works in the Surgery department at MedVet Cleveland and is pursuing her VTS in anesthesia.
