I saw a stylized bird on line and had to make my version of it for a new loom. This one will set on a table or shelf. Sorry about the photo had to have a little fun with this. I’ll take better photos when I list it in the store.
(5/7) “Since the pandemic, things haven’t returned to how they were before. I’ve gotten older and can’t come down here as often as I used to. I used to live down the street, but now I’m a few blocks further away. I don’t always drive; I often ride my bike instead. The area hasn’t picked up as it once did, and it’s been challenging to get people to attend events like before. The blues band is an exception. They still draw a full house. But I believe we still have the largest collection of local art anywhere in St. Louis.
On Sunday mornings, the ladies from the church nearby hold services here at Zuka and they run Cafe Hope, a soup kitchen for the community on the first three Saturdays of each month. A teenager in the neighborhood who regularly came for a meal, was admiring the art and was invited to make art with me and other senior adults taking the art class we offered at the time. The church ladies noticed his interest and talent, so they pooled their money to buy him a wooden art kit and he used it during my Saturday art lessons. That kind of community support is what I cherish most about Old North. When someone says they need something, there’s always someone ready to step up and help.
One year, a lady living nearby mentioned she needed blankets because her building didn’t have enough heat. I asked some audience members who came to hear the blues musicians play every Friday to bring a blanket next time even if it wasn’t washed and I promised to wash them. I'll never forget how they came through. They brought so many new blankets that I didn’t have space for all the donations. We gave the lady more than enough blankets, so I started distributing the extras throughout the neighborhood. It’s incredible how when you ask for help, people come through in a big way.”

Pictured: “Harmony in Yellow”
"Harmony in Yellow" is a captivating image that showcases the stunning beauty of a bright yellow gerbera daisy. The photograph captures the delicate balance between sharp focus and gentle softness, as the base of the flower remains sharply defined while the petals gracefully unfurl into a dreamy, softer focus. The vibrant yellow hue of the petals exudes warmth and radiance, creating a harmonious visual composition that celebrates the natural elegance and tranquility of this floral marvel.
