Charity Newsies is a tremendous asset to our community! See below about clothing for kids in need.

As we get ready for another school clothing season with clothing assistance applications available at www.charitynewsies.org beginning on July 29, we thought now might be a good time to review eligibility criteria. Eligible Franklin County children must be in Kindergarten through 12th grade attending in person school and from families at 200% or below of the federal poverty level. You must know clothing sizes and the schools in which the children are registered and enrolled to complete the clothing assistance application. We have the capacity to serve 18,000 children this year and clothing will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. Bookmark www.charitynewsies.org so that you are ready for July 29!

Each August, 2nd & 7 hosts a Book Bash event at Bridge Park that brings the community together through live music and fun activations! This event supports their mission of promoting reading by providing free books and positive role models to kids in need while also encouraging young athletes in the community to pay it forward.

Such an exciting week at the Columbus Kids’ Book Bank, supported by !

Over 3,000 books were donated through book drives held by and , and via donations from community members.

Educators, students and families from the Columbus community received over 1,400 free books at our May giveaway event.

We are proud to feature two freshman student athletes from the CREC Academy of International Studies in Connecticut: Elyssa Ofori-Boack and Malia Charles. Both have served as 2nd & 7 athlete volunteers for 1 year and we are grateful for their commitment to inspiring young readers in their community!

Elyssa is a member of the volleyball and basketball teams and shares, “I get to connect with the kids and teach them valuable life lessons shown in the books I read to them.” Malia is a member of the volleyball, basketball and track & field teams and her favorite aspect about serving as a 2nd & 7 volunteer is, “creating a bond with the kids and talking to them about life.”

Liberty University Track and Field sprinter, Ellie Bevan, is our featured student-athlete. Ellie has served as a 2nd & 7 reading role model for two years. Her favorite aspect of 2nd & 7 is that students have the opportunity to keep the book after she reads and discusses it with them, allowing them to build their reading skills in and out of the classroom. In addition to being an active participant in 2nd & 7 outreach, Ellie serves on the Liberty Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

We are grateful for athletes, like Ellie, who strive to inspire young readers and athlete peers!

Thank you K12 Book Services for donating 1,487 books to the Columbus Kids' Book Bank! This tremendus donation will help us provide book access to students in-need in the Columbus community.

April’s recommendation comes from Coach and Coach . These brothers lead their lacrosse teams on the field and empower them to give back to their communities off the field through our role model reading program!

📚 Nick’s book recommendation is Built to Lead by Chester Scott. He loves this book because it is a daily discipline including reading one page and then reflecting and journaling on the topic.

📚Pat’s book recommendation is our very own, The Hog Mollies and Little Lily’s Legacy. He admires Lily’s work to help others in her community, all while staying humble and not looking for any of the credit.

2nd & 7's annual football camp presented by Holowicki Enterprises, promises to be one of the best summer camps for your child. This camp focuses on the fundamentals of football in a non-contact setting, with some of the best coaches around. Kids ages 7-14 are treated to 3 days of drills, guest speakers, great food and a lot of fun!

Remember, this camp is a fundraiser! Proceeds support our mission to promote reading by providing free books and positive role models to kids in need while encouraging young athletes of the community to pay it forward.
