The Mighty 1192 EN CO!
On this day in Ohio National Guard history, June 19, 1875: The 1192nd Engineer Company is organized in Youngstown, Ohio as the “Iron Guards.” The unit is entitled to campaign credit from its active service in World Wars I and II and the War on Terrorism. Additionally, the company has been decorated with the Meritorious Unit Commendation twice for service in Iraq, in 2004 and from 2019 to 2010. In 1887, the unit’s local designation was changed to the Logan Rifles, in honor of Civil War Maj. Gen. and U.S. Sen. John A. Logan (pictured). Logan’s son, John A. Logan Jr., commanded the company from 1889 to 1892 and was later posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor after he was killed leading his battalion in the Philippines during the Battle of San Jacinto as an officer in the United States Volunteers.
