REMINDER: the application deadline for the WiE LEAP community is April 18th!

The Women in Engineering Learning Community Early Arrival Program (WiE LEAP) is designed to assist students in their transition to the study of engineering and the Ohio State University atmosphere. Students will move into their residence hall, Torres House, the home of the WiE Learning Community prior to Autumn Semester move-in day and spend time with faculty, alumnae, and students from various engineering disciplines. Through these interactions, participants will get a jump start on forming connections that will ensure their success as engineering students. WiE LEAP 2015 is sponsored by ArcelorMittal. There is also a mentoring program put in place through sophomore students who participated in the program as freshmen!

FLAS Fellowship | Center for Slavic and East European Studies

2016-2017 FLAS Competition and Information Sessions

The Center for Slavic and East European Studies at The Ohio State University is seeking applications for its 2016-17 Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship competition under the U.S. Department of Education’s Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship program. Applications are being accepted for Summer 2016 and Academic Year 2016-17 fellowships for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students who are pursuing a course of study requiring advanced foreign language and area studies training. Eligible languages taught at Ohio State include Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Turkish, and Uzbek, however subject to approval, fellowships may be used for study at other U.S. institutions or to study abroad. The fellowship deadline is February 1, 2016. Full information on the fellowship and a downloadable application can be found here.

Our esteemed alumni Dr. Eric Evans is the Director of the MIT Lincoln Labs and will be leading the overview and information session to tell you more about the Lab’s focus areas and internships and career opportunities at the Lab.

2016 Computing Career Corps Instructor Application Survey

TECH CORPS’ Computing Career Corps (CCC) is designed to strengthen students’ technology (computing) skills while at the same time exploring technology career pathways. The program introduces students to a variety of occupations in the field of technology including computer programming, software engineering, robotics and app development. Students will gain a solid understanding of the inner workings of technology and also use their newly acquired skills in the authentic task of creating solutions to everyday problems.

Instructors are responsible for leading and supervising the students as they complete the fifteen-week program.

WTS Columbus chapter is offering local (Ohio-based) scholarships totaling $7,600.00, all of which allow the winners to compete with other states’ winners for $27,000 in WTS international-level scholarships. One of the scholarships is for undergraduates, two are for graduate students.

Ohio State University Women in Engineering representative Christine Ruple participated in a weekend long Engineering Ambassadors Workshop at Ohio University, sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Participants learned how to present engineering topics to minors in a way that gets young students more excited about engineering, and engaged in learning what it is that engineers do.
