Email Changes Affecting Alumni

Engagement Professionals OTDI has announced the ending of Lifetime Email Forwarding Service (LEFS) for all university email by December 31st. This will affect alumni who have set up forwarding from osu.edu or buckeyemail.edu addresses to their personal emails or who rely on osu.edu emails being forwarded to their Buckeyemail mailboxes. This change is in response to increasing deliverability issues with forwarded emails caused by security measures enacted by outside email vendors (such as Gmail, Yahoo!, etc.). Other than the ending of LEFS, no changes are currently happening for existing alumni Buckeyemail users who graduated prior to May 2024, but there is a committee working on recommendations for the future of alumni email access. We will share more as that work proceeds.
OSUAA & OTDI are partnering on a robust communications plan as well as assistance for alumni who might need help changing their settings. We will share information and resources to partners so you can help point alumni in the right direction. The first email to alumni who are currently using LEFS will go out later this month. In the meantime, if you have alumni who are having issues receiving their emails, please refer them to OTDI’s help desk or the Engagement Center.
Another recent change was implemented with May 2024 graduates. The May cohort and future graduates will have access to their Buckeyemail mailbox for two years post-graduation. After that two-year time period, their mailbox will be closed. This aligns with other technology access for new graduates.
If you have any questions about LEFS or alumni email access, please let me know.
