Happy Double Ninth Festival! (Chung Yeung Festival!)
This traditional holiday celebrates good health and longevity, associating with the elderly and our ancestors. Double Ninth is celebrated before the coming of winter, where friends and family go hiking to enjoy the fall season, tomb sweeping with food offerings, and enjoy chrysanthemum tea or wine together.
The history dates back to the Eastern Han dynasty, in which a man named Huan Jing battled with a plague-causing devil. The day this devil was defeated fell on the ninth day of the ninth month, where Huan Jing helped the villagers protect themselves by climbing up a mountain. He had also given them Zhuyu plants and chrysanthemum wine, in which the smell weakened the devil and allowed Huan Jing to beat it. To this day, this event honors that legend and is celebrated together with families.

The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional celebration in China. It falls on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese agricultural calendar. The primary festivities during this celebration are dragon boat racing and zongzi consumption.
Zongzi is essentially a ball of glutinous rice that contains various stuffings. These stuffings can be either savory (e.g., meat) or sweet (e.g., red bean). Before eating zongzi, one must peel away the leaves of bamboo that the rice comes wrapped in.
The festival has its origins in Chinese folklore. As the story goes, a gifted poet in ancient China by the name of Qu Yuan had committed su***de by drowning in a river. Qu was a beloved member of his community. When local townspeople caught wind of his su***de, they raced across the river in boats, hurrying to save his body. To prevent fish from eating his body, they also threw balls of glutinous rice into the river, hoping the fish would eat the rice instead. Both of these actions gave rise to the main activities of the Dragon Boat Festival. 🐉
