LEBANON, OH - ‼️ NEW FOSTER DOG ESCAPE ARTIST PENNY LANE SAFE!! ‼️

Funny video of adorable foster brother “watchdog” Louie, who looked none too happy about being roused from sleep to welcome his sister back home, in the comments.

Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes… and fortunately was in the trap after hopping back into her foster mom’s yard and then hopping back out to get the yummy bait food in the trap.

Penny escaped her yard sometime early Wednesday afternoon. But we were in for quite the surprise when we questioned a neighbor to see if they had seen her. Turns out they had, only the day before. Apparently the cute little brat had found a way to sneak out of the yard and back in! This time, however, she must’ve gotten spooked by something and took off into the woods. She made her way to the local dog shelter nearby, where staff saw her running behind the building and off into a section of woods close to a busy highway. Overnight, she was seen in downtown Lebanon, but quickly vanished again.

Thankfully, she showed up early this morning and found her way into the trap eventually. Good girl, Penny!

WORTHINGTON, OH - ‼️INJURED STRAY ‼️

Picture of face in comments.

We were contacted by someone in the vicinity of W Wilson Bridge and Rieber whose security cam picked up this dog. The dog only stayed for a minute or two, then got up and left. This pup may have just been struck by a vehicle, as he/she looks pretty hurt. If you see this dog or have any information on it, or know who owns it, please contact us immediately. Call or text any time @ 614.377.1777 or message the page. Thank you.

UPDATE: FOSTER FOUND!

NORTHERN KY. AND THE INSANITY IN THE RESCUE WORLD CONTINUES.

Kim got a call to trap this dog last night. As so often happens, it was only after she got the dog safe that she got the full story…

The people who asked her to trap had brought the dog home back in February after finding her on a camping trip. She got loose shortly after that and has been running ever since. The reason they contacted Kim was because animal control was going to fine them for not properly containing the dog. However, the local shelter is over capacity so, now that the dog is caught, animal control does not want to take the dog in just to put her down.

And here’s where it gets really good… the owner’s plan is to give the dog to a friend who has a 25 acre property who is going to let the dog loose on the property and “feed her once a week when they go down there”. You can’t make this $ #!% up.

If anyone is able and wants to give this poor dog a chance before she gets failed by humans for at least the third time, let us know. She is reportedly good with kids, cats, and other dogs but is a timid, shy dog who will need some time and patience to adjust and settle in. As always, we will cover all vetting, food, provide crate or whatever else she needs. Please let us know if you are able to give this sweet girl a chance. Otherwise, I guess it’s back to the wild! What a sad state it’s come to.

❤️ SWEET SENIOR SAFE AFTER BEING STRUCK BY CAR AND SPENDING 9 DAYS DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO HIGHWAY ❤️

Very sweet, shy senior boy Rusty is SAFE!!

Rusty went missing on 3/19 after some workers left a gate unlatched and was reported struck by a vehicle that same night. He was seen on the 315 side of the highway fence in the same vicinity on Friday morning. Traps were set but, unfortunately, Rusty did not find them until the early hours on 3/28.

However, after finding food at the traps that morning, we knew Rusty would be back looking for more in the evening when things quieted down. But feral cats and raccoons had other plans for the bait and started early, so the traps needed close monitoring and immediate releasing of critters if Rusty was going to be caught. Finally around 11, Rusty appeared and was quickly safe in the trap.

Rusty and his mom have been together for 5+ years. He came out of Brown County, where he was found chained to a tree. Almost Home Dog Rescue took him in and mom Bev nursed him through heartworm treatment and ended up adopting him. He was majorly fearful and only recently he has been coming to her for affection and has opened up to her more. We are so happy that you will have the chance to continue learning to be a very well loved dog, Rusty!!

CHARDON, OH: This beautiful, pregnant mama dog gave her new foster mom the slip Friday night and caused great worry for many, thinking of her out in these frigid temps and high winds. As soon as we learned about her situation, we got a trap out at the spot where she went missing, made some heavy broth trails leading to the trap, and counted on the odds that she would return, like so many displaced dogs do. And it always seems to be at 3 o’clock in the morning when they make their way back.

We are so happy that Taylor is safe, back in the warmth and love of her new home, where she can prepare to have her pups.

1/12/24: We have a sad update to share. Scout, Nicholas’s sweet boy and Hoot’s brother, was found deceased, hit by a car on the highway about 9 miles west of home. Our hearts go out to this family.

As soon as we learned Scout was seen on US-35, the dog warden Nelson Prater immediately got a trap out where we thought Scout might return. He did not.

We share in your sadness and appreciate the warm outpouring of support the community in Washington Court House has shown for Nicholas and his pups.

>>> UPDATE 1/9@12:30p -- Scout was credibly seen today off Palmer Road NW. Please share to folks who live or work that way. If you see him, please do not pursue, as he could bolt. Instead, call/text 614.377.1777 asap. Thank you!

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE (Fayette County), OH:

Hoot SAFE! Scout STILL MISSING!

On December 26, a young man’s two beloved dogs went missing. Working in conjunction with Dog Warden Nelson Prater and his staff, little sister pup Hoot was humanely trapped this morning at 4:45 AM.

We appreciate so much the assistance of concerned local friends Jen and Kyle and Francene, who helped keep the area baited until we saw evidence of the dog on cam, and who also provided backup enabling the trap to be kept live overnight.

The community support for this young man and his dogs is heartwarming, and the sighting information instrumental.

>>> Please share and stay alert so we can help get big brother Scout home, too!

If you see Scout, please DO NOT CHASE. Instead, ignore him, and contact us immediately at 614.377.1777 or by messaging our inbox. As always, our thanks for your support!

DUBLIN, OH - GIGI’S SWEET CHARA SAFE!!!

Video of her reaction to her previous foster mom showing up is in the comments! 👇

Thankfully, this sweet, smart little girl kept herself safe and made her way back to the prospective adoptive home where she was staying! If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times—dogs who go missing in unfamiliar territory will usually track back to the point of escape, at least initially. Note that this is counterintuitive to what everyone thinks. The dog doesn’t know the area or the people, so why does it go back? While we don’t know that we can tell you why, we’ve seen it play out hundreds of times and we try to take advantage of it every chance we get!

Chara was only in her new home overnight. She got loose around 2pm yesterday when out on a walk and she bolted. She was spotted throughout the day and towards evening, in a pattern that indicated she was working her way back to the house, as expected. So we got a trap set up, not expecting her to show up until everything quieted down for the night, and everyone was indoors. Finally, around 4am, our camera went off as she was walking past the trap!

Dogs dragging a leash, as Chara was, are a bit more concerning as well. Sometimes the leash dragging against the trap, will put them off. Thankfully, after maybe 15 minutes or so, she decided that all the good food inside was worth it! We are so happy she is SAFE!

ENGLEWOOD, OH - ‼️ PLEASE SHARE TO FIND FOSTER SO THIS HANDSOME GUY CAN BE SAFE AND WARM!! ‼️

Another handsome Corso… not sure where they are all coming from but we wish it would stop. 😢 There was an awful lot of interest for the handsome young boy we trapped last month—anyone able to foster or foster-to-adopt a distinguished possibly older-looking gentleman (pics aren’t great)?

We don’t know much about him yet other than that he needs help and we can’t give it to him unless we can find somewhere for him to go, at least temporarily. If you’re able to offer this boy a place to go please inbox us or text/call 614.377.1777. Thank you!

GREENVILLE, OH - ‼️ PLEASE SHARE FAR AND WIDE TO SEE IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SWEET BOY ‼️

UPDATE: He is currently with an experienced medical foster and is doing well. Despite his body condition, nasal/oral issues, and bit of confusion/uncertainty at all that’s going on, he is warm with a full belly and quite the adorable, loving, happy little guy.

‼️ FOSTER NEEDED - POSSIBLE MEDICAL FOSTER ‼️

OMG, our hearts just broke. Lori Miller in Greenville just set her trap up for this little guy who had been seen running in a neighborhood for the past several days and was able to quickly get him SAFE!

But it was immediately apparent that something wasn’t quite right with his nose/muzzle. The very kind neighbor, Shaughn, who was working with Lori to get the little dude safe, immediately took him to her vet to get him examined. He is extremely emaciated and has a nasal fracture that appears to be older as well as a fracture of his hard palate. It is currently unclear if the two events were part of the same injury.

We sincerely hope these wounds were accidental in nature, but they are consistent with abuse. Given how sweet of a disposition this little man has (just loves being close and being held), that thought is unimaginable.

In any case, we’ve already told him, from here on out, it’s nothing but good stuff and we’ve promised him that, if there’s anything that can be done to help fix his nose, we know a bunch of wonderful supporters who will have his back!!

Currently his medical needs are pretty simple—getting weight back on him and feeding him soft food, as currently he may be more prone to aspirating hard food. If you would be interested in fostering this guy, please message us through the page or text us @614.377.1777.

If you would like to donate to his care, you can click the donate button on this post or on our main page, and we will put other methods in the comments. THANK YOU for helping us to give this little guy the very best future!

SOMEWHERE SOUTH OF THE NORTH POLE - Have you ever seen a real live Christmas Angel? No? Let us show you!!

And if you’re one of those people who are all about the reunions (we certainly are!), you’ll want to be sure to check out the video in the comments. 👇

So this is how Christmas unfolded for a couple of our volunteers and Pearly, this little Christmas Angel, sound asleep on the back seat.

Our Cleveland volunteer, Dot, saw some posts about a dog who went missing in early December while someone was watching her while the owner was going through some personal matters. With the generous assistance of several concerned local folks, on Christmas Eve, Dot set a trap out for this little girl and soon had her SAFE!! Because she could not hold her overnight, another volunteer drove up and picked Pearly up and brought her back to Columbus.

Thanks to her microchip, Pearly’s owner was contacted and she got in touch with us early Christmas morning. It turned out the owner was not even made aware that Pearly was missing! Arrangements were made and, Christmas morning, we made the drive back up to give Pearly her Christmas miracle—reuniting her with mom and dad AND her brother Eddie the Boxer, who was quite happy to see his baby sis!

DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS, OH - ‼️ LAYLA IS SAFE ‼️ AMAZING GOOD SAMARITAN! ‼️

Layla, a shy, timid, newly rescued puppy mill survivor was missing in downtown Columbus NEAR CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. In a very dangerous area near I-70 (actually seen on the highway at one point), she was bolting blindly down and across busy roads for the last several days. We had traps out but she was just all over the place and not slowing down.

AMAZINGLY, just after the two rescue volunteers from Layla’s rescue, Arianne and Weston, were out looking for Layla and secured a different dog they found running in the middle of Main St., we got a crazy message from Layla’s adopters that she was SAFE! Someone had secured her. But HOW?!

This amazing Good Samaritan, who didn’t wish to be on camera but was kind enough to relate the story, tells how he and his partner were out walking their two dogs and noticed Layla wandering around and quickly realize that she was lost. After quietly and calmly following Layla for a bit from a distance, watching her get into Franklin Park Conservatory (without even paying admission, the little rascal!), eventually she wandered into an apartment complex and fell into a window well and couldn’t get out!! This wondeful person, familiar with how skittish some dogs can be when lost, had the presence of mind to grab a slip lead and secure Layla!! What a hero—from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU, Sir!!

CONNEAUT, OHIO:

In Conneaut, up on Lake Erie where Ohio meets Pennsylvania, little Mattie is SAFE after running a 1.75 mile stretch of country road for the last 12 days. And she went into our humane trap at the exact place she slipped her collar and ran an hour after arriving at her new home.

Mattie’s case is another example of how displaced dogs who go missing in an unfamiliar area often stay close and track back to the very spot from which they went missing. It’s so important to maintain daily a fresh wet, smelly food station at that location, preferably monitored by a security camera or game cam. It’s often in the middle of the night when dogs come back, and without a camera, an owner might never even realize.

We are so relieved and thankful that Mattie kept herself safe until we could get her safe, and we are so glad for her family and the concerned neighbors on S Ridge Road East who worried for her and helped.

TIPP CITY, OHIO:

There’s an odd pattern of behavior that we see over and over again in dogs who are lost in an unfamiliar area—they often, in the quiet of that very first night, return to the exact spot from where they went missing. We relied on this pattern of behavior to get Sprout safe last night in Tipp City.

A recent addition to the family, Sprout was going to see the vet. It’s a scary thing, especially for a newly adopted dog not yet comfortable in her new place with her new people, to be loaded into a vehicle, unloaded in the parking lot of a strange place with the loud noises of traffic and trucks going by, and then shepherded to the front door of a strange building with other pets coming and going. She got scared and slipped her harness and ran.

Her distraught owners reached out to LPR the next morning for guidance. We explained this pattern of behavior for displaced dogs and asked them to see if the vet’s security cams saw her come back that first night. Sure enough, she was seen twice overnight, both at the location where the car was parked and at the vet’s front door.

In order to get a trap and camera out immediately, the family enthusiastically agreed to travel to pick up the closest equipment. With our direction, they baited and set the trap at the spot where their car had been parked, and we watched the camera, hoping Sprout would come back this second night. She was a textbook case. She showed up at the trap at 10:54p and went right in. Her parents rushed to collect her, taking her safely inside the trap into a contained space at their house to release her. They are filled with grateful thanks and relief to have their girl back home.

It’s counterintuitive to think that a dog who has never been to a location before can find her way back to that point of escape, but when this happens—dogs who go missing from a dog sitter, from a new foster or adoptive home, from a car accident, for example—it’s immediately actionable for a trap or at least leaving a food station until a trap can be arranged.

MENDON, OH - UPDATE ON MENDON DOG WITH CHAIN AROUND NECK AND FORELIMB

It’s been a bit hectic around here, but we’ve been wanting to get you an update on the Mendon dog we trapped Sunday morning that had the chain around its neck and forelimb.

The chain was dug in a bit worse than it first appeared. No wonder he is not real happy with humans right now. The poor guy isn’t in the best condition and wow, having that miserable thing digging into his little body for at least a month that we know of had to be so painful. The good news is that the chain is off, the wound is cleaned up, and he is on some goooood pain meds. He’s still pretty upset with people, as you might imagine, but we’ll see if that diminishes once he starts feeling a little better. We showed him the chain and told him he would never have to wear one again.

Our Farm Sanctuary may be taking this boy, still waiting to hear back from a message we sent. 🤞 However, in everyone’s best interest, especially his, we are happy to give him a few more days of monitored decompression here. Video of Mr. Surly in comments. 👇

SOMERSET, KY - ABANDONED DOG WAILS FOR THE HUMANS WHO DUMPED HER

PLEASE SHARE THIS MESSAGE IN CASE IT CHANGES ONE PERSON'S HEART!

Our SUPERHERO MYSTERY TRAPPER'S identity is none other than RHONDA WILSON! We'll tell you Rhonda's history with LPR, for those of you interested. But first, we want to share her video and message from a dog she trapped a couple weeks ago.

If you have sound on, beware--hearing this poor girl cry for the humans who dumped her just might break you. This is Rhonda's message:

"If you only knew just how much they will cry and scream after being dumped and how scared they are of people now or how long they just sit and wait and hope you come back… would that make a difference? I doubt it.

She obviously deserved a much much better life even before she was dumped."

So a few years back we were contacted by a woman down in central Kentucky who was trying to catch a stray Great Pyr and asking for some advice. After some communication back and forth, we found out this woman, Rhonda, had been waiting in line to borrow traps from the local humane society to be able to go out and help get some strays in need safe. THIS is why our equipment fundraisers for new or other trappers have been some of our most successful fundraisers--because you KNOW the potential for making a huge difference they have! We set Rhonda up with a couple traps and cameras, and she has been on fire ever since. Our previous post was just a quick glimpse of some of the ones she's gotten safe over the past few months--we'd be surprised if those were even half.

Folks, the situation for stray pets has become so dismal--they are everywhere. Shelters and rescues are operating over capacity and having to continually turn animals away. As bad as the situation is here and all over, some of the stories that have come out of Rhonda's area of Kentucky can just break you. Stray and even owned cats tortured or left in traps to die, dogs dumped in the middle of nowhere to die. How some humans do what they do is beyond us.

We can say without reservation that Rhonda is one of the most caring, kind-hearted humans we have ever met and we are so glad to call her one of our own.

Any donations you make on this post will go to Rhonda, for veterinary expenses for the many rescues she currently has in her care and/or to trapping equipment, to continue to be a force of nature and force of compassion helping to save the lives of so many!

Check out our previous post of just a handful of the dogs Rhonda's gotten safe over the past few months!

Here’s just a “few” more of the dogs our mystery trapper has gotten SAFE only just recently! I mean, literally I’ve just been looking through my phone for pics the last 15 minutes….

When you think KENTUCKY and think “force of nature” trapper, we know y’all think Kim Steinborn. But this person is also a FORCE OF NATURE!! We’re gonna introduce you in just a bit but I really want someone to ask in the comments what the significance of the map is so we can explain that too…. 👇
