AASLH Learning: Demystifying Digital Preservation (October 2024) - Live Webinar No matter the size of the institution or the scope of the collections, cultural heritage organizations are grappling with the reality of stewarding collections that are increasingly digital. We're excited to hear about the renovations at the gorgeous Sorg Opera House in Middletown, Ohio. We had a chance to tour the theatre in April when Downtown Middletown, Inc. hosted a workshop, and it's spectacular. Congratulations!
Today is an auspicious day. The first major steps in our lobby renovations are starting this week. Working from the top down by removing the drop ceiling installed in 1947 in order to perform inspections and add insulation, air barriers, and new lighting.
It'll be a slow process, but for a while you'll be able to see parts of the building that haven't been seen for 77 years.
HUGE congratulations to our friends at Main Street Vermilion on the purchase of their office space!
We love a good facade renovation, especially when it uncovers pieces of the past. Nice work, Mainstreet Piqua, Inc. and Trusted Transportation!
Ohio Main Street communities produce some incredible events, and Art in the Park with Downtown Painesville looks like it will be a fantastic time!

We had a great visit today with Van Wert Forward, the Van Wert County Foundation, Main Street Van Wert and Senator McColley, to discuss historic tax credits and downtown revitalization. An amazing transformation is taking place in Van Wert, and Heritage Ohio is thrilled to be part of it!
Today, we were honored to host Ohio State Senator Rob McColley along with the team from Heritage Ohio, including Dave Williams, Duane Van D**e, and Matt Wiederhold, to discuss collaboration in revitalizing Van Wert. Together, we're creating a model for sustainable growth that can inspire similar efforts across Ohio.
The Van Wert Forward project is strengthened by the state's historic, new market, and transformational mixed-use tax credit programs. These programs allow us to leverage economies of scale, increase our investment and complete more work in a shorter timeframe. Though nuanced, these tax credits are valuable tools for projects of this size.
We're grateful to our state legislators and Heritage Ohio for refining these programs to make them more accessible to Ohio communities. Public-private collaboration is vital in shaping our community's future, and today’s discussion highlighted its importance.
Heritage Ohio was in Newark for some pre planning for our conference. We were so happy to get a sneak peek at the amazing Newark Arcade project! We can't wait to feature it during our Annual Conference, Oct 15-17!
