Today is World AIDS Day. The first World AIDS Day took place in 1988, providing a platform to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS and honor the lives affected by the epidemic. This year marks the 35th commemoration of this important day. This year’s theme“World AIDS Day 35: Remember and Commit.”
The Columbus Dispatch has been running stories all week about the history of the fight against AIDS in Central Ohio and the work that is currently being done. On September 22, The Legacy Fund of the Columbus Foundation hosted our 8th Legacy Honors event. This event honored the lifelong legacy of Karla Rothan and Linda Schuler.
Their dedication and service to our community have been nothing short of extraordinary, and it was our turn to show our appreciation. This event was more than a ceremony; it's a testament to the power of community spirit, and a celebration of the progress we've made in advancing LGBTQ+ rights and visibility in Central Ohio.

The Legacy Fund of the Columbus Foundation
The Legacy Fund of The Columbus Foundation awards grants to organizations and individuals to support equality and empowerment of individuals in Central Ohio's LGBT community. Our board is comprised of volunteers who work together to steward funds contributed directly and through legacy giving and charitable estate planning. We exist to support organizations in the Central Ohio community that grow and foster LGBT equality for now and for the future.
