The Passion to Purpose Community Fun Event is an opportunity for teens to come together and create positive change in their community through their love for competition. We’ve partnered with Barack Community Center to host this event. After recognizing the importance of recreation centers to many young people around Columbus, Youth to Youth teens planned this event to address the need for positive outlets for young people. Consider your participation to be an investment in the community.
The event will be held on December 16th, 2023 from 1pm- 4pm. It is a community fun event open to high school and middle schoolers hosted at Barack Community Center. There will be a DJ, games and activities, concessions, and the highly anticipated 3 v 3 Basketball Tournament for grades 9-12. The tournament is co-ed, 3 versus 3 and half court. There is no registration fee. You must arrive at 1pm for registration if you are playing in the tournament. There is double elimination with randomized seeding, and games will be 15 minutes or first to 12 points (1s and 2s). If you want to play on the same team with friends, make sure that when they fill out the registration form you all select the same team at the bottom of the form. Slots are reserved on a first come, first serve basis.
Special thanks to our partner , our event sponsors , and all of those who have contributed!

We have been searching for words big enough to fill this man’s legacy, and we will always come up short.
Youth to Youth lost a legendary member of its (east cost) family this weekend, and our hearts are broken.
Bob Houghtaling passed away suddenly on December 8th. To countless people in East Greenwich, Rhode Island and far beyond its small borders, Bob will always be a man who can’t be defined as just one thing. To many he is something of a mentor or a father figure, and to others he is a great friend. For all of us whose lives he has touched, he has been a force for good. Yet, Bob was so much more than any of those things.
Bob was fiercely committed to youth and their well-being, particularly passionate about the prevention of alcohol and substance misuse. He had an unbelievable ability to connect with young people and connect youth and adults together in a way that changed both their lives forever.
To the Youth to Youth family, Bob was prevention- in-action. He used his decades of vast experience and multi-faceted training to change young people’s lives for the better. His history with Youth to Youth is evident in this first picture; Bob sporting a conference t-shirt from the early 1990’s.
There is no doubt he left an imprint on all who knew him, so now it is incumbent upon us to carry forward as Bob would want us to. As we try to navigate his loss, we must lean on each other. Bob looked out for people from all walks of life. Whether you knew Bob or not, we challenge you, especially this holiday season, to look out for each other. Please be kind to one another.
Bob loved to write and would often sign off with “See you soon- Bob.”
While we may not “see” you in the ways we are used to, and so desperately want to, we know a force this big cannot be extinguished. Bob, you live on through us and are with us always. In that way, we may not know exactly how, but we know….we’ll see you soon, Bob.

We are saddened to share that we lost a treasured member of the Youth to Youth family yesterday. David Sanchez was not only a supportive father and grandfather to members of the program but also a dedicated volunteer at Youth to Youth summer conferences and middle school camps for many years. His genuine ability to connect with youth, passion for our mission and purpose and calm demeanor made him a favorite adult staff member! We will always remember the “magic” you brought to us!
We are devastated to inform you of the passing of Dean Mason. Dean was an adored member of our Eastern States Family and the Vineland, New Jersey community. His involvement with Youth to Youth spans nearly 15 years as he attended his first conference as a middle school student but continued to come back every year in whatever capacity he could. From youth staff to A-team to adult staff, Dean always found a way to give back to the program that meant so much to him. Our hearts go out to everyone in the Vineland community and all who loved him, especially Nick, Cody and the entire Mason family.
Come hang out before our Wednesday meeting at the Common Ground this week! Vibes at Five will have music, food, and (of course) vibes.
Don’t forget to bring a friend!
