Greetings everyone. Well the Summer Semester started a little rough, but we are on track now. That is why I have NOT posted anything, but I will post a little update.
Before the start of the semester we able to get a new A/C trainer. Since we are signed up with the Freightliner GETAhead program, we are able to purchase training aids or freightliner trucks at a reduced price. We had a short fall in our budget and we did NOT get much money this year. The only thing we able to get, was the A/C trainer. It is a Park Smart A/C unit use on the latest freightliner trucks. We will be using the unit it in our A/C classes.

Well we getting close to the end of the Spring semester. Last week Anderson Machinery donated several engines to our program. One of the engines is a Cummins V903. This was a very popular engine back in the day. It is a V8 engine and was used in trucks, tractors, and boats. This engine is still used today in the US Army Bradley Fighting vehicle. We are currently working to get this engine started.
Well, another SKILLS USA competition is in the books. Today we had 18 high school students from all over TX compete in the SKILLS USA Diesel competition. The students were tested on 10 different tasks. They had 12 minutes to complete the task. The top three finishers, finished with a very high score. The winner will go to represent TX at the National competition. We had a few judges from industry help us with the competition. THANKS to Cummins Sales and Service and also Untied Rental for helping out this year. Also a BIG THANKS to our students that helps us judge. We ask for volunteers every year and many are always happy to help.
Is it that time of year again? Yes and No. This week we have been cleaning the shop and getting it ready for SKILLS USA. For well over twelve years the diesel program has been putting on the SKILLS USA State competition. High schools from around TX, that have diesel programs compete to be able to represent there school at the state competition. Competition will start tomorrow. Stay tune.
Diesel engines will still be around for a long time.
Next Gen X15 Integrated Powertrain Embracing the future of power, the Next Gen X15 diesel engine marks a milestone in our fuel-agnostic platform, the Cummins HELM platform. It arrives as a fully integrated powertrain featuring Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission and Cummins-Meritor technologies.
Last week I got an email from Cummins Sales and Service, saying that they had two engines and they wanted to know if we wanted them. One was a runner and the other one was a tear down engine. I said YES and they had them delivered to us. The engines were both ISX 15's. Cummins has always been a big supporter of our program.
Today and tomorrow, one of our instructor will be at Holt ProTech in San Antonio for training. Today the class was on CATERPILLAR Electronic Technician. This the software used to work on CAT engines and equipment. Tomorrow the class will be on CAT Service Information System. SIS is a website that is used to look up information for any product that Caterpillar makes.
The learning never ends,
It has been a busy day and week. Just posting a few updates on some projects that the students have been working on. A customer had brought us a truck and he said the engine was locked up and he had another engine to put in it. The engine was a CAT C15. Students got the engine out and the customer brought us the other engine. Before we could put the engine in, I wanted to make sure it would start and run. Today we did that.
Today the students also put in a 6.0 engine in a FORD F250 that a customer brought us last semester.
Also Monday a customer brought us a FORD F650 with a Cummins ISB engine. Customer said the engine was overheating and there was also oil in the coolant. We also found that there was water in the oil. We removed the valve cover and found that there was water in the oil. The learning continues.
Today we received some parts from BENDIX Corporation. BENDIX is a BIG supporter of our program. They have helped us over the years with parts and training material.
In todays class we went over basic electrical, how to build circuits, and also how to use a digital multimeter. These are basic skills that students in the diesel program need to learn and will use when they got out in to the work force.
We are in our second week of the SPRING semester and today a couple of students pulled out the CAT C15 engine that a customer brought us last year during the FALL semester. We started working on getting it ready to take out, but we ran out of time. Well today they got it out. Now we are going to wait for the customer to bring us the other engine so we can put it in. Stay tune.
Greetings everyone. Welcome to the NEW year and 2024. Today we completed the first week of the SPRING semester. Monday was a holiday and because of the weather, we also did NOT have class on Tuesday. Since we did NOT have class on both of those days, I will be meeting one of my classes for the first time next Monday. Hopeful everything will be back to normal.
Also many of classes were close to being FULL and our numbers look good. Stay tune.
