Join us and have fun in our painting Alebrijes workshop! You will decorate and paint your own Alebrije with Acrylic, combining fun, imagination and culture. But first, what is it and what is its meaning? They are imaginary animals for dreamers like you!
According to the Mexican Zapotec tradition, they are colorful animals with magical shapes. They are hand carved dreams originally made with Copal wood, depending on the size, to make one can take months. The choice of shapes and colors is an adventure due to the immense possibility to combine patterns, colors and meaning.
Later in the 1930’s the term Alebrije was coined in Mexico City by the handcrafter Pedro Linares. It is fascinating right?
Join our Alebrijes workshop, learn about this cultural heritage. Live this craft experience combining tradition, dreams, and popular art. Register at https://www.cognitoforms.com/CorvallisMulticulturalLiteracyCenter/CorazónPaintAnAlebrije2024Registration
