Oregon State University Swine Center
Oregon State University Swine Center This is accomplished through the annual spring youth auction, Oregon State Fair, and through private sales.
The goals of the Oregon State University Swine Center are to produce high quality Yorkshire, Duroc, Berkshire and crossbred pigs for the state of Oregon and Pacific Northwest.

Way to go Hannah!! She is former employee who is her first year!
The Next Vets, Class of 2026. Hannah Walker from Hermiston, Oregon is interested in: “large animal medicine, specifically, cattle, dairy and swine. I am also interested in bridging the language barrier gaps on farms and in clinics, which is one reason why I have studied Spanish and have a minor in it.” Fun facts: “I rescued a dog from Mexico about 2 years ago and her name is Emilia. I can speak Spanish and have been studying the language for about 8 years.”

The Yorkshire gilts were born on 6/10/22 out of Tik Tok on a Big Paw sow. The sift is at 5 pm Saturday and the auction is on Sunday starting at 1 pm.

Enjoy you summer with PIPESTONE, Jaime
As we wait on the last litter of the summer to be born over the weekend, we would like to update everyone on the current status and future plans.
Current Status
1. All piglets from the summer litters are available for sale. We have 2 Berkshire litters (Jimmy Juice x Throwing Stones born 6/5) (Identify x Coldwater due 6/18), 1 Yorkshire litter (Tik Tok x Big Paw born 6/10) and 1 Duroc Cross litter (Tik Tok x 76 born 6/10). Currently we have a list of potential buyers for the 4 sows. If you are interested in being added to either list (sows or piglets), please DM us.
2. We will be taking the best 4 head of prospect pigs from the summer litters to show and sale at the Oregon State Fair.
3. Towards the end of summer, we will put out a list of equipment that will be for sale and sold through the OSU Surplus website. If you would like to notified of what will be listed and when it will be available, please DM us.
Future Plans
To make sure that OSU students are still given the opportunity for an hands-on education and exposure to the swine industry, we will be shifting to a model in which we will buy 4 bred females in December/January to farrow in mid-late January and/or early February. Classes will learn about farrowing, care and management of swine as we previously done throughout winter term. All pigs born will be available for sale to youth and fellow pig producers as we have done in the past. Students will also learn to AI and we will sale the bred females after confirmation of them being bred. So in theory, we will only maintain pigs on campus for 3-4 months. As stated by a fellow pig producer, "we're shifting from full time pig farming to part time pig farming."
If anyone has any questions, please don't be afraid to contact us! Take care and have a great day!
The Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at Oregon State University has made the difficult decision to maintain swine on campus only during times as needed for teaching , research and outreach projects. We are fully committed to teach ANS 216 – Small Ruminant/Swine Industries and ANS 460
– Swine Production systems annually and providing a well-rounded education to our students. As stewards of state resources, this will allow us to provide our students on-campus hands-on learning while also exposing them to modern swine production through field trips and guest speakers.
We will farrow the remaining litters throughout the month of June and those females will be available for sale after weaning. All summer-born pigs will be available for sale with select prospect pigs being shown and sold at the Oregon State Fair. Extra swine-related equipment will be sold through Oregon State University Surplus in the fall. Please contact Matt Kennedy at [email protected] for further information.
Thanks to all that have supported us through the years.
