🙌 What an amazing weekend of September classes!! 🙌

🌾 Folks learned how to weave baskets, carve spoons, make acorn flour, fix their bikes, woodwork, and more!

🍕We had so much fun at our pizza potluck too, sharing what we learned and connecting with new friends over yummy wood-fired pizza.

🌿 We want to thank everyone who participated in a class, as a teacher, learner, or pizza eater!

‼️Two spaces opened up in our Willow and Mixed Bark Basketry class ‼️

🧺 Learn the basics of willow and mixed bark basketry in a series of simple styles using local colorful weaving materials such as cherry, willow, and other garden barks.

📆 This class can either be taken as a one-day or two-day session, September 28th and 29th.

☝️The one-day session includes materials and time to create a small basket or cover for a water bottle or drinking jar. 
 
✌️The two-day session includes materials and time to create a larger weaving project, such as a woven backpack or large basket.

🖇️ We reserve spaces in every class for scholarship students and award these scholarships, no questions asked. We grant full and half tuition awards; these scholarships do not apply to class materials fees, which are paid separately.

🚲 We are so happy to partner with folks from to bring you a home bike repair class this September! 🚲

⚙️ This three-hour course will cover basic maintenance and repair, with focus on shifting adjustment as this is an area folks find intimidating.

🛠️ Please bring your bike to the class if you have one, and come learn how to fix it!

July class 〰️ Clay: Marks, Methods, M’History 🪨🏺

🌀 If you have tended to feel drawn to the medium of clay but have not found many classes that speak to your “out of the box” curiosities in exploring the medium, this may tickle your creative reserves.

🔹 Students will explore finding their creativity process through handwork with clay, using writing/verbal prompts, and engaging in a conversation with the material without the expectation of a finished object.

🪵 This class is a hands-on exploration of traditional materials, fire-starting and fire-carrying tools and techniques. Students will learn about the importance of good fire and cultural burning in Tribal and Indigenous communities, as well as its role in a healthy and abundant ecosystem.

Registration is still open for classes this weekend! We wanted to offer a special shoutout for Deb Curtis' Birch Bark Cylinder class this Sunday 9am - 4pm, located at the beautiful Bald Hill Farm class (a great class for the amazing mom in your life!). Learn a contemporary style of working with bark harvested from a birch tree to make a stunning and utile vessel out of natural materials.

Scholarships are available, and we also have spaces left in a willow weaving and bird watching class--check 'em out on our website, tarweedfolkschool.com (link in bio as well).

We hope to see you there!

That’s right, our Spring classes are just over a week away! 🙌

🌱 Teachers are preparing materials, the Steering Committee is sorting out last minute logistics, and we are looking forward to hosting students for a full weekend of coursework—all with a focus of tending to the land, ourselves, and each other here in the Willamette Valley.

We had a great time tabling at the Northside Open Studio Tour today--thanks everyone who came out and to for hosting us!

May 2024 class highlight: Willow Basket Weaving - Irish Creel 🪢🌿

🧺 Students will learn all the steps involved in the manufacture of an Irish Creel style willow basket. The weaving is a ground up process where the upright structural members are pushed into the ground and the basket is woven upside down and finished at the bottom. If students have time, handles can be added after the basket is removed from the ground.

May 2024 class highlight: Wooden Stools 🛠️🪑

🪵 A two-day exploration of stool making, this class delves into the principles of attaching legs to a seat with wedged through tenons. This same technique can be applied to a variety of forms, such as chairs, benches, and stands of all shapes and sizes. A mix of hand and power tools will be used for this class, with a bit of comparison between the two.
