We understand the critical need for equitable access to information and services. Black immigrants often face language barriers in their new country, hindering their access to essential services and opportunities. Empowering Black immigrants through Language Justice is our mission.
Language justice means ensuring that everyone, regardless of their language proficiency or background, has equal access to information, services, and full participation in society. This involves providing linguistic accommodations, translation, interpretation, and cultural sensitivity to support individuals who speak languages different from the dominant ones in their context. Our goal is to foster inclusivity, equity, and the celebration of linguistic diversity within communities and institutions.

Faith In Texas is dedicated to addressing these challenges, advocating for equitable opportunities, and bridging language gaps. Join us in the pursuit of Language Justice. Together, we can build a more inclusive and equitable society 🗣🌍🤝

Fannie Lou Hammer's words echo through time, a call to action that still resonates today. 🗣️🌟 We yearn for leaders who prioritize people, leaders who see the value in every human being. We can't sit idly by, waiting for change to happen. As long as oppression persists, we must rise and assert our worth. Let's heed her call to stand up, united as women and men, and forge a brighter path. 💪🌍

“I feel excited we help those who have been unjustly incarcerated. I know what a small injustice feels like, and I just feel for people who are innocent, and kept in jail. I been involved with Faith in Texas for five years now, and I feel really glad to be doing this work in the community.” Menaca P. From Horizon Unitarian Universalist Church in Carrollton, Texas.

“From the standpoint of faith, I would advise all of children to find correct spiritual guidance. Because our generation dies without it. spiritual guidance will take the children and their parents to the straight path. Guide them to the right path, where they should be learning. It is not man that gives them that, it’s Allah that gives them that. The quicker we can bring everyone to the straight path, the quicker it is that they’ll find race.” -Dr. Jamal Rasheed. Black history educator and historian.

“I attend Mercy House Ministries. It’s a church that empower and equips single, pregnant women who are without support in downtown Dallas. And when I come here to Lew Sterrett Jail, I feel really emotional and sad because some of the moms I see and meet here, ask for help because their children are mentally ill, and they have been at Lew Sterrett jail for quite some time now. The next steps are to continue to keep fighting for decarceration and help in any way that I can.”- Rosalba Cetz

11/15/2022

“These people here at Lew Sterrett jail in Dallas County are hurting. These are real stories. This is just dehumanizing, and not looking at people in the image of God that we are supposed to be in. It’s hurts me to hear these stories at Lew Sterrett Jail and to know that this is the condition that we are in. We need to take action that dehumanizing instances do not happen further. It’s immense work, but it needs to be done.” - Gordon Martinez of Spring Creek Church in Garland, Texas.

Today, on November 6th , community leaders and families got together to support the families of people who have had loved ones lose their lives while being incarcerated. Many leaders also voiced their concerns and experiences that they seen through the incarceration system. Faith in Texas is working closely with those impacted in the community and having their voices be heard so changes can be made. The Dallas County Jail Population is almost 60% non-violent charges with around 3,600 people in jail currently with nonviolent charges. With inhumane conditions within the jail population, we are asking Dallas County to create a plan to reduce the jail population enough to close an entire tower of the county jail and spend the money saved on what’s needed by our formerly incarcerated members, family, friends, and neighbors!

It's estimated that around 80% of the non-violent charges would be eligible for release if they had enough money (could pay bail). The math would suggest that 2,750 - 3,000 people in jail currently could be released if they had enough money.

Faith in Texas sees a society in which economic, racial, and social fairness enables everyone to follow our divine destiny and participate fully in the institutions and processes that govern our lives with total freedom. We proclaim and establish our work on the following five universal truths: (1) All humans have inherent worth and deserve to be treated with dignity, care,
and respect. (2) The most directly impacted people should be the center and driving force of solutions (3) Organizing should build power that is shared by all (4) Freedom is an inalienable right (5) God is at work to restore justice in our society.

"As a business owner the obstacles really be yourself. You have to overcome fear, rejection, and wanting to quit . You don’t want to take too many losses but you have to take a few. So you got to trust people but when you from certain places it’s hard. Financially you have to put money in to get money out. I work to fund whatever I need as a artist. You must grind to shine. Don’t think it’s gon going to fall out the sky. Believe in yourself and the rest will come." - Artist ,

"I was born in Congo but as a child, my parents decided to leave due to the war and unstable economy to find better opportunities elsewhere. The only advice I have to give is time waits on no man so take initiative today to accomplish your goal. I have overcome struggles by the support of my family. I have a small family and it is the only family I know of my two brothers and mother. We work as a team with finance school relationships and any other obstacle we all help each other to go through anything."- MMA Fighter, Dayffir Ngoie

Our Luke 4:18 Bail Fund through Faith in Texas will now be freeing individuals the first 3 Wednesdays of the month from 9 am to 1 pm at the Dallas County Jail. Due to the amount of time it takes individuals to be released after the bail has been posted, it causes individuals to not be connected to services effectively after their released-on Friday evenings. The Bail out days are changed from Fridays to Wednesdays.

“On a daily basis, when we interact with individuals through work and outside in the community, there are many things that can happen and take place. One thing we must do and always remember to do is be thankful no matter what. To those around us, and to God. Our faith will remain strong all together if we stay thankful to the creator.” - Imam Aseel Khan
