Months After Muhlaysia Booker's Murder, Black Trans Women Still Feel Unheard - D Magazine
“When you’re at the intersection of being black, of being trans and being a woman, you’re at the lowest of the low. You’re at the intersection of intersection. And that’s why we say when black trans women are free, everybody’s free.”
- RAE NELSON
dmagazine.com A video of Muhlaysia being beaten went viral, then she was killed. The national media descended, then left. But black trans women are still here, and still struggling.
Dallas Artists and Organizers Host an Event Inspired by the Harlem Renaissance
With organizer and artist Niecee X at the helm, the QTPOC-focused pop-up Revolution Cafe & Bookstore will host VELVET: Nights in Harlem on Saturday, June 22 at The Speakeasy . The event is part of an effort to launch a summer series of Afro-centric and Afro-futuristic programming. Niecee X decided to launch the series with a Harlem Renaissance-inspired event after realizing parallels between our time and the Renaissance.
“A 1920s party is not what I want; I want something artsy, creative and mysterious,” they say “I wanted to curate a group that was intentionally q***r, but not just s*xually. Q***r as in different, outside of what we usually get.”

Op-ed: 50 Years Later, Pride Month Is a Disgrace to Our Ancestors
This.
out.com There’s still a lot for q***r and trans folks to be mad about.
I attended the LGBT Police Townhall yesterday, it felt like a tea party, few were asking the hard questions and we ain't got time to be playing patty cake. My question which was unanswered by both the "detective" working Muhlaysia's case AND the district attorney AND the police chief was simple: Was Edward Thomas the man who had beaten her just a few prior and had been released was he wearing any type of monitor and or being watched? No one knew. I have a feeling DPD is hiding some info and is busy creating alternative stories saying it fits some prior murders... I dont buy it.
I am making the effort to keep the focus on our sisters memory till the funeral has passed. We all deserve that peace. But afterward, EVERY SINGLE PERSON who had anything to do with keeping Muhlaysia safe will be held accountable. I PROMISE THAT.
- Niecee X
Today as we mourn the loss of our sister Muhlaysia Booker, do not post that video of her being beaten. Instead, let's remember her as the beautiful fiercely human young and free woman she was. Let us contemplate how WE will show up for Black Trans Women moving forward. never asked to be our lesson, but the ancestors saw fit that she was, will WE learn?
(EDIT: her Birthday is January 14, 1997)
Number 3- Rest In Power and Peace Muhlaysia Booker
Our Sister Muhlaysia Booker who was brutally assaulted in Oak Cliff a few weeks ago was found dead Saturday morning. This post is to ensure we are all on alert. Make time for your healing. More is to come. Our hearts are with her parents, family, and friends in this challenging time. We are all hurting. Let us continue to keep them lifted. •

I am Angry.
When will we put an end to this. When will all of us matter?

is a Black woman, mother and grandmother was murdered by police in Baytown TX near Houston just 1 day after Mothers Day. She yelled I'm pregnant before being shot 5 times. Pamela may have been mentally ill, she may have been noncompliant but these are rarely determinants for the murder of white men who are arrested carefully after shooting sprees in movie theaters and churches.
Pamela was said to have warrants. None of these factors should have resulted in her death.
Our hearts are heavy and our blood is boiling. We are furious and angry.
The person recording took no action either. There is no reprieve in Amerikkka for Black Women. There is no justice, only the justice we make as a community and sisterhood.

IRL, An Interview With Niecee X On Community Action
”I want to facilitate a less punitive culture in our communities, it seems to be a never-ending cycle of hurt people hurting people and marginalized marginalizing, someone has to end it and get to the root of the problems.”

kendrianaspeaks.com Activism, but in real life.
We are an abolitionist organization. We know the prison industrial complex is a double-edged sword and is not a viable benefit compared to the societal harm black people; particularly q***r, trans, and other marginalized people experience at the hands of the police, prisons and in our own communities.
Trans women's cases are mishandled and ignored by law enforcement. In 2018 2 trans women died in custody. Dallas' jail Lews Sterret has a long history of misgendering and refusing hormones to trans folk and placing trans people in danger in general population. Prison itself is a center of trauma instead of healing.
We are tasked with creating alternatives and opportunities for transformative justice because of this. It is important abusers are stopped from committing more harm, it is also important that there are efforts to reform and reeducate these abusive individuals and those who support them to prevent further harm. Prison does neither of these things and is obviously an unsustainable method of justice.
One, two or three LGBT cops won't alter a system that is inherently anti-black, racist, transphobic, homophobic, classicist and s*xist.

He's in jail.
Transphobia is still rampant. Especially in Black and Brown communities men AND women exhibit it. What will we do to solve that?
There was a crowd of nearly 100 of US out there. No one stepped in. What will we do about that?
If one can call out violence from the state in the form of structural racism and if that same person can unpack how domestic violence statistics for Black women are so high because of racism + s*xism , why is there confusion about how transphobia, particularly against black bodies ( standing outside of colonized social norms), is another step up to that same violent, racist, s*xist, transphobic system?
When will all the RBG and so-called Pan Africanists accept and protect ALL AFRICAN PEOPLE?
Our oppressor is a hypocrite, are you?

Transgender woman attacked after traffic accident at east Oak Cliff apartments
Muhlaysia Booker a transwoman was attacked in Oak Cliff yesterday by a mob, very similar incident to Deep Ellum after a minor traffic accident she was assaulted as the perpetrators yelled homophobic slurs and a large crowd of onlookers watched. Our liberation is nothing if co-opted by police negotiators, abusers, and ambulance chasers. They will lead us to nowhere every time. Last night the people saw that.
Our liberation isn't a photo op, isn't a political maneuver with no teeth, OUR RESISTANCE IS LIFE OR DEATH.
Last night our community stood strong and refused to back down, particularly our SISTERS stood strong regardless of who tried to convince us to do otherwise and my brothers backed us up.
I am proud of everyone who came out and made it known that that our sister L'Daijonique MATTERS.

Many of you have heard about this n**i incident in Deep Ellum Wednesday night. We are currently working toward creating a response for what is most certainly an act of racist, violent terrorism against a black woman. As Deep Ellum is being further colonized it has become less and less of a safe space. This is not a coincidence. We ask that if you have additional information or you would like to help out please contact us here or at [email protected]

The Congressional Black Caucus Needs to Pass a Reparations Bill Before Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez…
Cancel all this new fake "WPOC Political Representation" It's the new Obama who droned, deported, and exonerated Flint ..but he was black and so we blindly followed.
Alexandria Ocasio Pretend Socialist Cortez too.
Proximity to whiteness and revisionism are a recipe for disaster.
This is what she said to Ta Nahesi Coats in an interview:
“People think reparations is reparations for slavery, but really, economically speaking, reparations are for the damage done by the New Deal and redlining because that is where we saw a compounding of the existing inequity from the legacy of slavery, where we drew red lines around black communities. We said white communities will get home loans and they will get access to the basic bedrock of wealth in America and this will be your heirloom and we gave white America the heirloom that appreciated overtime — that people still benefit from today and we did not give to African-American and Mexican communities, Puerto Rican communities.”

What do we do with abusers like R. Kelly if we abolish prisons? - The Black Youth Project
(( In the intrest of productive discourse: Please please read the article BEFORE commenting. Thank You ))
There is always a limit to the care we can give in a world built by prisons. In a world built on the blood of the Black and criminalized. And I understand when we turn to temporary solutions. I understand avoiding our issues and calling it “self-care,” because I do it sometimes too. I understand the urge to turn to the police to handle our issues, although I do not do that anymore. The world burns around us, but at least when we face somewhere else it doesn’t feel like we’re made of water. Like we are fallible, and have our own weaknesses. The same weaknesses that have always been exploited.
But at some point we have to acknowledge a body of water is more than enough to put the blaze out, and I believe facing our weaknesses is the only thing that can. We have to do this work, we have to challenge all of our tendencies for abuse, even when it’s hard and unimaginable, if we want this to end. As the poet June Jordan said, “we are the ones we have been waiting for.”
blackyouthproject.com We can’t abolish prisons without abolishing the abusive culture that relies on them, so there's no void abolition leaves behind that we should fear will be filled with more abuse.
