Thank you to El Tour de Tucson for highlighting two very special TEAM TEAL members of our EL TOUR DE TUCSON team!

Dr. Meredith Mitstifer and her husband, Tomas Dixon, are near and dear to the family! Meredith is an ovarian cancer survivor, Board Chair of the NOCC, and she and Tom are the biggest supporters of the teal community! You can see them on the sidelines cheering on our teams - and many remember Meredith and her son Ryan, who summited Mount Kilimanjaro with NOCC in 2023! READ BELOW on why making a difference with their miles is so important to them!

What does it take to be inspired? For Meredith R. Mitstifer and Tom Dixon, it’s about helping people in need through cycling and, well, their own inspiration.
Last year, the husband and wife cheered on cyclists in El Tour de Tucson, including those who they had a stake in the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) TEAM TEAL.
“My house was filled with my TEAM TEAL family and we cheered on team members from the side lines,” Meredith said. “The weekend (of El Tour) was filled with laughter, love and this amazing team spirit which of course led us to start discussing 'what is next'.” See what's next in the link below:

EVENT - FALMOUTH ROAD RACE ~ August 18, 2024

MY WHY...
"Running for Team Teal means a lot to me and NOCC and the ovarian cancer cause is near and dear to my heart. I am running for my stepmother, Eve, who is fighting Ovarian Cancer. She is a strong, independent, creative woman 🎨 💪 and she deserves the best. The funds raised will support her and so many others going through similar health experiences. As a carrier of the BRCA gene mutation, I am also running to raise awareness and assist with research into testing and early detection. I am running for a better future for my 3 daughters, and for all of us🌻🌷"

The Falmouth Road Race will take place in Falmouth, Massachusettes, and is a 7-mile scenic run along the coast of Cape Cod. Dollars raised for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, through help fund research, education & awareness programs, and quality of life resources which include meal delivery, professional counseling, peer-to-peer support groups, financial assistance, and more. We have an additional bib for the Falmouth Road Race - on Sunday, August 18, 2024, in Falmouth (Cape Cod) Massachusetts! This is a 7-mile scenic course along the Cape Cod coastline!

The race which began in 1973 is a premier summer race, voted a "Top 25" race in the USA by Sports Illustrated, and was 5th in a "Top 10" US race by Running Times Magazine. Simply a phenomenal photo of one the climbers - Nora Nock!

Nora climbed in support and honor of her mom - her "mama bear" who is living with a Stage 4 ovarian cancer diagnosis. The photo reads "We love you Mama Bear! Stay Stong! You got this!" Nora said it best, "it (cancer) hits harder when it hits home". With over 20 years as a cancer researcher, Nora said she had to do more to help end this disease and improve outcomes for those affected. THANK YOU NORA for making a difference with your miles!

Kilimanjaro -HOPE to New Heights UPDATE
DAY 7! Last Day!

The team has made it back down to the base of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa - and back at the hotel after their final day of trekking through the rainforest.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE ~ similar to an ovarian cancer diagnosis, it takes a village of support for a journey this epic, and TEAM TEAL was held in excellent hands by the number of amazing porters, guides, and leaders who kept our team safe ~ even when difficult situations arose. We are indebted to the group who helped TEAM TEAL show there is HOPE with an ovarian cancer diagnosis! We did not do this alone -every person who supported and donated was and is part of the NOCC teal community and helped make this happen! T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U!! Now on to rest, food, sleep, and much-deserved PRIDE by every single member who took on this journey! Know that with an ovarian cancer diagnosis, NOCC is here for you - we will be your village!

NOCCTEAM TEAL - MOUNT KILIMANJARO - HOPE TO NEW HEIGHTS!
Day 6 - The Summit

From the first day, several months ago, when 5 ovarian cancer survivors joined this epic journey, they demonstrated that a cancer diagnosis does not define a person and that they will live to the fullest while giving back to others. For the 3 caregivers and advocates, they demonstrated a willingness to support a cancer community in need, in any way possible. As one advocate climber eloquently said, "Cancer has not affected me, but it has affected my village". The summit is not the end goal of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition's "TEAM TEAL" 'Hope to New Heights' Trek. The purpose is to show the community at large, that there is Hope with an ovarian cancer diagnosis and an organization and "teal community" willing to go to great lengths (or heights!) to end the disease.

The NOCC is extremely proud, and so very honored, to have this group be part of the teal NOCC community - thank you to Christy, Clare, Kara, Karin, Kathy, Mandi, Nina, and Nora - and to all the donors and supporters - who support the NOCC. Special thank you to Sean Swarner (top row, 2nd from left) our leader, and to Theo, Milton, Kennedy, and Luka, some of the amazing guides who helped out the team throughout this journey! On to the summit!

The team has already made the summit and is at camp for the night -with some at the base already. We will share our summit photo in our next update!
