We were thrilled to welcome over 300 people across our three vibrant Shabbat services. The adults enjoyed a beautiful Traditional Shabbat Service led by Rabbi Ari Sunshine and Cantor Zhrebker, while our Dor Chadash crew filled the room with joy, singing, dancing, and even hula-ing into Shabbat with Rabbi Shira Wallach. Our Bonim kiddos came together for their first Shabbat service of the year with Rabbi Adam Roffman and Rabbi Avi Mitzner.

Looks like Rabbi Adam Roffman will need a vacation from his vacation after two weeks serving as the musical director of the musical theater program at Ramah Darom with Rabbi Shira Wallach who taught dozens of campers of all ages six days a week! They had an amazing time and so will your kids if they join our growing Shearith crew of Daromniks. Be in touch with either to learn more!
What a show! Kol hakavod (well done) to Ramah Bamah chanichim (campers), who lit up the stage last night in their "The Sound of Music" performance, and to their directors, Jonah Greene and Rabbi Adam Roffman, who turned them into shining stars. This morning, we said l’hitraot to those who joined us for the 2-week musical theater program only, and those staying through Session Bet joined in their aidot activities. Morah Sarah’s Recent Trip to Israel:
The Jewish Education Project (TJEP) and The iCenter, in collaboration with The Jewish Agency, sent twenty-five Jewish educators to Israel and I am proud to report I was selected as one of them. Our diverse group from around the country was not only greatly impacted by the program, but from each other. We bonded, reflected, cried, sang, and still found moments of laughter together.
This program granted us the opportunity to meet with numerous individuals of various faiths affected by the war and aftermath of October 7th. As we listened to their stories, many times it was hard for us to hold back tears. Our group felt the need to be extra strong for the survivors and their families, and our hearts were also heavy, filled with empathy for our people.
Upon my return, I am still processing everything from the most meaningful Israel trip I have ever taken. As a result, I have the following questions: How do I take this experience and bring it to our students? What will a third grade Israel curriculum look like compared to sixth grade? How do we retell the stories of such brave souls with the same amount of detail and courage?
My participation and continued growth in this program will continue in the States. I am excited to also have a new network of incredible educators to lean on regarding curriculum and education about Israel post October 7th.
And somehow, despite the war and immense pain, Israel still feels like Israel – a Jewish sense of belonging like no other place in the world. My connection to Israel and being Jewish feels stronger than ever. I am incredibly grateful and appreciative of this experience.
If it was not for the Shearith community, I would not have been exactly where I needed to be in April of 2024. Thank you.
From soulful melodies to joyful dancing, our synagogue was alive with the sounds of Windy City this past weekend! Cantor Zhrebker and One Voice Gospel Choir set the stage for an unforgettable evening of unity and celebration.
Huge thanks to our incredible volunteers and Music Committee for making it all possible!
Our 20s & 30s crew put together an amazing fundraising opportunity this past weekend! We hosted a pickleball tournament to raise funds for lunches for unhoused individuals. Thank you to everyone who joined us in giving back to the community!
Dear Shearith Family,
A day we have long feared has arrived with the launch of hundreds of drones and missiles from Iran into Israeli territory. Iran, whose leadership proudly echoes the wicked schemes of its ancient ideological forebear, Haman, has long threatened the lives of our brothers and sisters and the very existence of the Jewish state itself.
Thank God, just as Haman's plot was foiled by the brilliance of our ancestors Esther and Mordechai, so too did Israel's decades-long effort to plan for such an attack protect our people from physical harm. We are grateful, as well, for the efforts of an international coalition, led by the United States, to extinguish the fire of this evil from the skies above our Holy Land.
Nevertheless, we are terrified as we await an uncertain fate for Israel and all her citizens as this conflict develops in the coming hours and days. We encourage you to check in with friends and family in Israel to remind them they do not wait in the dark alone for salvation to come. We are with them, just as we always have been, just as we always will be. And as we wait, let us also pray for God's protection with the words of Psalm 121.
May the one who brings peace above, bring peace down below, on us, on all the people and the land of Israel.
