What does our city want to be?
Citizens of Dallas come together to envision and shape the future of our city.
Are we condemned to be a city that lacks an identity apart from affluence? Or does our city have a soul – derived from its history, its diverse populace and its vibrant allure to newcomers?
With an influx of new residents, Dallas enjoys new energy, imagination and ferment even as it also retains many of its traditional advantages – and challenges. Our collective decisions in the coming decade will shape the future of our metropolis for decades to come. This lecture series offers an opportunity for mindfulness about our city's emerging new identity.
Join us February 2nd to hear Byron Sanders. Link in bio to register.
Join us at our 39th annual Sue Rose Summer Institute - it’s going to be EPIC! This year we are reading epic literature from Homer to Melville and beyond - also including work with the Indian epic, the Mahabharata, the Mayan epic, the Popular Vue, etc.

The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture exists to care for the actual things of the urban world. In some instances, these things are visible—education, architecture, medicine, art, technology, money. Equally important are the invisible forms within which life takes place and has meaning—friendship, the soul, taste, imagination, community, intellectual life, ritual, leadership.
Through its courses of study, public seminars, publications, conferences, and civic involvement, the Dallas Institute brings thought, imagination, language, and sensibility to bear on the convergence between the visible shaping of the world and the permanent values necessary for the crafting of culture.
